Yeah driving up there sucked because a) 600 miles b) Buick Roadmaster tow vehicle without 3rd gear -or- heat.

^That looks like the exhaust made out of an cherry bomb and aluminum tubing. They put some of the roof back on and added a few finishing touches since I saw it wednesday.

It looks pretty awesome but sucks to drive. Well... actually I don't know, it was my first time driving anything with a trailer.

videos of 2 different drivers - in second one he forgets to turn off the starter and it melts, shorting the electrical system and blowing a fuse :(

So, two questions on this build (so far, I'm only like 400 posts in or something silly)....

What's this two stage dual wastegate whatever thing?

You mentioned a bad batch of BW's? I suspected when the market was devoid of them for a while (also, they built a new factory, never a good sign for the first few off the line)... Anyway, is that what happened to you? I guess no one knows, but I wonder if the other sizes they are not yet making will have the same issues......

...Oh, and more reading makes that seem a certainty. Wow.

How was boost creep? Looks like you were able to hold low boosts?

So, you mention your warranties getting turned down, then free speed sensors - but nothing in the middle like "if you're thinking of blowing your $1600 wad on a BW, it's cool, they'll eventually come around and honor their warranty", or not. How did that pan out?

Uh.. I'm a developer myself. Would be a good time to dick around with MS code anyways.
Why would you do that to yourself? That is some ugly code....


P.S. Lemons is a riot. Everyone should have to do it.

Thanks for all the info so far, it's super helpful. Considering my VVT head, valve work.... It would appear that once I dump the FM ex mani, 350 won't be even slightly difficult with a little care - no need for stupid big turbo.

What dual wastegate thing?
Borg Warner sells different wastegate actuators with different springs - low, mid, high. I think the springs correspond to like 5, 12 and 17psi.

The bad batch was for EFR series only and they have all been fixed now. Mine got replaced for free. And yes, it took a while.

Did you section that like the road racers do so you can sell them as crash repairs to SM guys? It didn't look very rust.

No we didn't even think about that. And yeah its awfully rusty. Frame rails were almost rusted through on driver side. We junked it for scrap cost. I kept the windshield frame + windshield and going to try to sell that on craigslist.

The frame rails or the pinch welds? I almost put a jack stand through one of my pinch weld areas. Thats going to need to get cutout and have some new metal welded in when I do the rocker repair.

uh, the holes in rockers IS the new shell
the old one had fist sized holes, the new one has quarter sized holes. it's a improvement.

I'll fix the rust one day, but it's hardly a priority.

As easy as a trip down south to pick one up. At least for miatas in new england rot free cars dont exist at this point, and if they do they're not for sale, or insanely priced. Soviet is more south so I bet he's got a better chance to get one. Mine car's nothing a weekend with the grinder, welder, some sheet metal, the rocker repair panels, and paint wouldnt solve. Soviet's looks like he could get away with just the rocker repair panels and some grinding and use the chassis weld epoxy rather than actual welding.
