Ok you said turbine in the last post.

Not shaved, machined. Probably with a pretty high accuracy.

Ok, so you could slap the 6758 housing and wheel on and have a 6758

Dude. What are you smoking.

6258 and 6758 are the exact same but a bigger compressor wheel and machined out housing.

You would have to then rebalance the turbo, buy a new compressor housing and wheel.

You buy a supercore and put your old turbine housing on it.

and have to re-balance the whole thing. and still stupid cause you can just sell the 62 since they hold value and buy 67. I dont get this conversation

The external dimensions are the same. The 62 and 67 have different internal dimensions, obviously. You cannot "shave down" a 62's compressor housing to fit a 67, nor can you "slap on" a 67mm wheel to a 6258. You change the entire CHRA (including turbine wheel) and compressor housing.

Nowhere near as good as a Miata trans, even with the best shifter. However, with practice you can shift remarkably fast. Just don't expect to do it right off the bat.

I concur. T5 doesn't feel bad of course, but the miata 5 speed is much slicker.

Also depends on your preference. The T5 isn't as slick, like Tim said, but it has a very precise, rifle-bolt feel to it. I had one in a Merkur and loved it.

It literally sounds like you are cycling a rifle.

People will complain about the shifter no matter what. There are people who think the 6-speed is simply undriveable, for instance. I could tell you what I think of those people, but I'll get nasty emails about it later, so I'll refrain. Needless to say, the T5 is a direct-mount shifter, I'm sure it will be fine after you get used to it.

People should try driving an Elise if they think any direct-mount shifter is undrivable lol.

As long as it doesn't fling bits of brass out the side every time you shift.

True. The miata 5 speed feels like you're shifting against some ball detents. T5 feels like a rifle bolt. When I'm cruising thru my neighborhood, you can hear the shifting echo against the houses. Snick-SNACK!

Re: T5: i'm totally ok with the rifle bolt results. I will miss having six speeds but that is admittedly probably 90% psychological. I like having a highway gear. I don't want to clutter this thread up with that however.

I had tendencies of missing shifts driving a T5 car at race speed, more so than learning to speed shift the Miata trans.
