Not so sure. I feel like we still haven't seen enough completed 7163's to make a call.

Hi Andrew, not wanting to hold up this thread, but I am trying to piece together your Acama's fuel system mods to go on a startlingly similar build (in Australia). I understand your cliff notes (listed again for clarity below) - but I couldn't follow what happened with the "flyback" circuit. From what I could gather, a VS-20TQ040PBF-ND diode and a HS382-ND heatsink (as identified by JasonC SBB) is there to protect the solid state relay from surge of some sort.

I think my question is this - does that diode and heatsink just get wired inline, between the fuel pump and the battery terminal?
... I have a feeling the question itself will reveal my ignorance

Or if you just wanted to sell me the package, I certainly would not complain
Thanks heaps

Acama's fuel mods:
-**this one added by me** - a "flyback" circuit comprised of a VS-20TQ040PBF-ND diode and a HS382-ND heatsink - but wired in where?
- DW300 or Walbro 450-E85 in the tank,
- 10awg milspec wired to bypass the OEM connector with bulkhead isolators,
- dedicated 30A relay wired straight to the battery.
- Gates $20/ft submersible E85 hose inside the tank,
- Earl's Vaporguard everywhere else.
- Fuelab 818 filter replaces the stock unit.
- Fuelab 535 regulator at the back of the car,
- OEM lines forward of the rear bulkhead,
- OEM fuel rail, ID1000s. "I sell all of it"

Skip the flyback diode, it's only needed if you are running a solid state relay. The SSR was a nice experiment which failed miserably. The idea was to use PWM control to negate the need for an aftermarket FPR, but 1. you need a boost reference in a high-boost, high-power NB, and 2. holy god the pumps run 2-3x louder when you use PWM control instead of on/off.

The rest of your list is correct, I can put a package together. I would add a fuel rail to your list, we'll offer the Radium part. You can get away with stock lines and staying returnless, but I suspect the stock fuel rail is a little overtaxed at these power levels.

That's ripper, thanks Andrew. I'll email you off forum about the package. Cheers.

And the control range of many items not designed for PWM is often small and tricky to regulate. Ive tried fans and water pumps. I assume Andrew also had trouble keeping the "Digital Relays" cool enough too.

If you're wondering how long a 6-speed lasts in a daily-driven car at this power level, the answer is 5 months or roughly 3500 miles.

Every other gear works except 4th. Broke under about 60% throttle in 4th.

Kit ordered a few months ago. Too busy to even unbox it. ZF6 from an '04 530i picked up this morning. ACT HD PP and KMiata 22-spline disc arriving next week. Tearing the car down this weekend to test fit parts. David is sending the updated trans mount and a PPF delete as well.

Hoping to make MRLS, we have a good shot.
