Manifold and turbo are the only bought twice, things.
Those are like two of the most expensive parts of the turbo system

Yes they are.

I do not have the time to jump ship to a 1.8 so will not. When the 1.6 goes the 1.8 will be ready and simply slotted in. Someone will gain a manifold and turbo i cared for greatly for less.

Sounds like you have all the information you need then! Hopefully you will populate a build thread someday.

I actually think you guys have supplied me with everything but every so often i see a thread of something exploding and become worried. Like gearboxes and 330lbft+ and then i see someone like you who is doing fine with it and probe to ease my concerns.

It is my birthday tomorrow and I'm fitting parts then so yes the thread will begin very soon

If I'm the statistical anomoly, then definitely err on the side of caution. Take a bunch of pictures! Happy early birthday

You're right on the mechanical sympathy part. A friend of mine who ran a 300whp Miata on a 5spd for longer than most people will believe. At the same time he was turning 8-9k RPM on a built motor. He was an avid auto-x (at a highly competitive level) and avid track participant. He is just a mechanically sympathetic driver. He never broke a 5 speed, but switched to a 6 speed when he want to full slicks that were much taller. This was 10-15 years ago, so the age of the transmission may play a part in his results as well.

I'll echo this once more.

This is the exact reason my powertrain is still bone stock even though the rest of the car is fairly wild. Buying once and crying once on my planned powertrain is turning out to be a gross number on my spreadsheet, but I know its the right way of doing things and will cost me the least in the long run for my end goal.

I regret nothing about the BMW 6-speed swap, as a data point.

Stop talking about BMW transmissions! I'm in enough hot water with the wife as it is.

The K Miata BMW shifter feels like a bolt action rifle. And the Billet machined aluminum flywheel is really sexy.

Some changes in living situation and finances are going to be happening in the next couple months that is going to make it much harder to continue with the car. As everyone already knows, its better to part a car out to recoup costs but I may be posting a feeler soon just to get a sense of what this might be worth to folks. I'm sure I'll get a lot of offers for $3000 because no one wants to inherit this kind of vehicle unless it was self built.

Otherwise I may be proceeding with a partout sooner than anticipated. I'd have loved to get one more season out of it, but I need to make a fiscally responsible decision now more than ever.

Edit:

Merry Christmas!
