Default Why build a NA, because car

Figured I would finally start my build thread as I spent 15 hours in my truck today so that I could get my 93 NA. Long story short I bought it from an insurance auction and it was supposed to be a theft recovery. From the pics on the site I used to bid most the dash was removed and most of the console ect. Figured it would be a great project so without knowing much else about it other than I could get it for cheap I ended up paying roughly $1400, 925$ winning bid plus all the damn fees. Well finally picked it up today and was very happily surprised when I did. First the car is pretty much rust free, and the motor looks excellent for an older model (I had no idea the mileage as all the interior was ripped out). Well after looking it over I open the trunk and BAM, the whole interior is in there including the speedo ect, and to make it better the car only has 90k miles on it from what the odo said. So overall I got an immaculate car to work with that has enough life in this motor hopefully that I wont have to 1.8 swap right away, oh and it had brand new tires as well.

I am not set in stone what my goal is for this build but I mainly want to auto x in the summers here in town so I will probably be orientated towards that with track in mind for the future. Lacking parts as of right now but here are a few I picked up the last couple days, will make a detailed list later and add pics tomorrow once i get the car off the trailer as its late and im tired as hell.

-Hard Dog m1 roll bar
-Sparco 4point harness
-Dreams and wishes for more parts

Haha thats a good one, I wish but with 90k miles im better off running it to the ground then swapping the 1.8 to turbo.

As for that phrase being bannable I find that quite odd as its not really offensive in any way. Even to people who are very serious about their racing capabilities and vehicles it would seem asinine to scuff over a funny phrase. Guess I just have a better sense of humor

With 90K and no SNC, boost teh 1.6. Plenty of parts floating around, $99 cast Ebay manifolds, etc.

We'll see, but id like to get a few autocross events under my belt with it being NA before I decide to go that route. Its still parked in my garage and I wont be able to even test drive it for at least a week or two with how busy things are. Also id rather start throwing money towards suspension, brakes, and welding seams on the body for reinforcement. Ill most likely start gather parts to turbo during the winter as ill have plenty of time then to tear it apart completely and set it up for next year.

Also where you located in NB? I have a bunch of guys I know from the subie club I was in heading down for the ice cream crusie in omaha and have debated it but dont wanna drive my lame *** redline down haha

Run a 5-6 point if you want to track it. 4 points are for ricers unless it's that one Schroth 4 point that actually works. Most clubs won't allow you on with a 4 point.

Well finally had some time today to start tearing the gaycar apart. Was glad I got to it because when it sat at the auction facility in Minneapolis the thing got soaked inside so ripping all the carpet out was good so I could at least prevent any rusting on the seams ect. Also was able to get the soft top off and start prepping for the roll bar install. Needless to say this car has been a breeze to work on and way easier than all the euro vehicles ive dealt with the past 5 years. Here are some random pics of what ive got done so far. Getting a 4-2-1 header that im wrapping and will most likely pick up a test pipe, but dont know what else I should really get yet. The tires and rotors/brakes are brand new so id rather wear them down before I go that route so ill probably start looking for suspension components now. Enjoy as I bring gaycar for you viewing pleasure

The sparco 4point I picked up from a member here just to use until next year. I will not be tracking it until then as I really want to get the feel of the car this summer at a few auto x events. Then I will be throwing down on some higher end safety equipment as I will probably have to replace my roll bar as well for my own personal preference of having an a support.

Little more work done, have the hard dog roll bar mounted up and just have to drill the final bolt holes to have it fully fastened down. Going to keep removing anything and everything that is of no need to get rid of excess weight for now until the final parts come in the mail later next week. Enjoying the work so for so hopefully ill at least have it street ready for a test drive within the next 2 weeks

Well had some time in between studying for finals tonight to start tearing areas in the engine bay down first starting with the headers. Found some interesting things in the intake box...

Needless to say dog-treats and an abundant supply of bird seed probably isnt the best for combustion in the head. Somewhat worried what I may find once I actually take off the valve cover
