"We're 100 percent sure the guy we hit is dead. We are reasonably sure the dead guy is Jihadi John,"

Now if they could figure out how to initiate a siren on the front of the missle that would activate just early enough for the brain to register that "oh ****" moment.

Strike on "Jihadi John" unfolded quickly, but hunt took months

40 dead. Explosions heard and 100 more dead in France now?

I'm turning off the TV. I can't take anymore.

A few random observations:

Seven temporally-coordinated attacks within less than a day of the assassination of Mohammad Emwazi. Impressive. Methinks that the enemy's capacity to make war has not been significantly degraded by the actions of the past decade-and-a-half.

Assuming there's a connection, ISIS has retaliated against France for the killing of a British citizen, in Syria, by Americans. The concept of statehood appears to be becoming irrelevant.

Germany has offered military assistance to the French government. The last time the German army marched into Paris, things did not go well.

One World Trade Center is flying the French flag in lights on its mast as a show of solidarity:

I get a weird, spooky, difficult-to-articulate vibe about this.

I think Mr. Emwazi had the unfortunate luck of being in the wrong place. Call it what you will. I doubt the world will miss him.

While I don't doubt the attacks were planned, I doubt they were in retaliation to his killing and I doubt they will miss him for long. France just happens to be an easy target. Just my opinion.

But this whole mess adds credence to the saying "be careful what you wish for".

Could it be that the French have more ***** than the US?

Will America be France's ally in a new war? (You'd normally expect that sentence to be phrased differently.)

I predict that the next year is going to be very interesting.

As someone who lives in NYC, works part of the time at the top of Empire, lost a colleague at the old 1 WTC, and is in the process of negotiating a lease at the top of the new 1 WTC, I will admit that this raises some bad memories.

We live in interesting times.

This is just ******* spooky. I don't know any other way to put it.

For those not intimately familiar with the history of the revolutionary war, do a little googling. One country in particular sided with the US in the war against Britain.

I'm late to the party. My fiance went to Mizzou from ~2010-2014. The level of liberal indoctrination she encountered was staggering. This trope is alive and well in many (obviously not all) institutions of higher learning.

Even though I graduated OSU (Oklahoma State) in 2005, I find it hard to believe it's changed that radically in a few years.

Does anyone believe that ISIS has 71 operatives on our soil in 15 states? Supposedly 23 of the 71 are ready for orders. This message was received by our gov't but is still unconfirmed if legit. Do you think this is just fear mongering?

Pragmatism: "That estimate actually seems quite low."

Shifting gears...

I haven't found much in the way of confirmation, but apparently Vladimir Putin has vowed to "annihilate" ISIS.

Putin Vows To Annihilate 'Terrorists' After Suicide Bombings - Business Insider

Now, granted, hyperbole is common in times such as these. But as a matter of historical precedent, when Russia vows to annihilate someone, things do not go well for them.

Remember that, according to credible intel, ISIS was responsible for the bombing of a Russian airliner (Когалымавиа flight 9268) less than a month ago, which killed 224 people. The Russians already have good reason to be pissed.
