The cover blurb, which makes reference to "calling into question our most basic assumptions about American politics," seems to imply that a majority of people ("our") believe that voters are fundamentally rational and predisposed to making informed decisions.

I don't assume this, nor can I think of many people who do, with those few being themselves especially shining examples of irrationality.

I'm curious as to how many people here genuinely believe that a significant percentage of voters (not just in America, but in any nation which holds elections and / or referendums) are to a significant extent well-informed about the candidates and policies for which they are voting, and make rational decisions about same.

Once you're in government, you're entrenched. Rich PAC's nd name recognition allow you to stay elected pretty much as long as you want, as long as you don't do anything truly stupid. Change prevents what we see now--political inbreeding.

No clue on pages, but not a ton of pictures. I also sent Nolan a very angry message asking why it is going to walmart and not amazon. He is going get get it sorted out.

He is using rational in the economic sense. Not that people make what other people think is a rational decision, but what the individual does. I don't think it is rational to inject heroin, and I would guess the vast majority of people would agree with that. But to a heroin addict, injecting is rational, because it offers the greatest benefit at that exact moment in time, they may regret it later, but when they made the choice to them it was the rational one.

Bryan goes into how most people don't actually make what would be considered "rational" choices, nor are they actually informed when they vote. The book is overall a good primer into Public Choice Theory.

Yes, I understand that.

My point being: "I'm going to vote for Candidate X because they said [nice / mean] things about [group of people], and I agree with them!" despite the fact that Candidate X has a proven track record of [fraud / embezzlement / pork-barrel spending / destabilizing foreign relations / comitting capital crimes].

Or, more specifically here in Chicago, "I'm going to vote in favor of the Safe Roads Constitutional Amendment because the ad on TV said it'll prevent those fat cats in Springfield from pocketing my road tax revenue," when it fact it does precisely the opposite- officially enshrining the notion that vehicle and gasoline taxes can (and will) be diverted to funding administrative salaries, building more speed cameras, and propping up the airport authority.

I don't trust voters to see beyond the shiny surface of a campaign ad, and I'm (peripherally) in the business of making sure that they don't.

the FBI had been pursuing both investigations for a while, but the Clinton Foundation paid off the DOJ, who in turn tried to **** all over the investigation.
