The previous story I read said 10 attackers.

Even at 5, how many more people would have been killed had they all been armed like the Vegas shooter? Or the FL nightclub shooter?

Unfortunately, both sides of the argument resort to ridiculous extremes and nothing happens.

One aspect I never seem to hear being covered by the news media, nor social media, is the role they play in these mass shootings. Most of the shooters are mental cases who want attention and/or to make some kind of grand gesture that will guarantee their 10 minutes of fame. They feel worthless and want to make some perverse indelible statement on their way out, lest they live on (and die) whilst remaining merely the lost and insignificant souls that they are (in their warped little minds). The inevitable news coverage and gut wrenching emotional accounts emblazoned upon the eyes of the greater portion of the human population provides the perfect fix for these sickos. (A whole other topic beyond that is the acute alienation and dysfunction that social media can actually breed in the mentally ill.)

Sadly, we always hear about how the the gun industry is profiting while our children are slaughtered, but never a mention about how many millions the news coverage, tweets, and comments brings in for the media. I'd bet that if we quit sensationalizing these unfortunate events we would see a lot less of them, or at least as few as we had back before the pervasiveness of 24/7 media began.

Then there's the pharma industy's contribution to the mix by pumping people full of mind altering chemicals from the time they're just kids. No one mentions anything about their profits.

If human history has taught me anything, it is surely to stand by the logic that if there is a will, there is a way. I can guarantee that even if this latest little fuck had no "assault" weapons, he would have found another way to make his statement against the world. If we really want to fix this, we need to provide an alternative sounding board for these people than the media.

I wish I could find some accounts from the week of April 16, 1865, discussing the role which the pervasive influence of the onslaught of news made possible by the telegraph played in the actions of John Wilkes Booth.

Or from 15th century England on the role played by the movable-type press in influencing the decisions made by the unknown assassin of King Henry VI.

Patronize away, I'm with G2G. Fucking media ain't helping. The "some asshole" solution is a start.

I'm sure video games and rock bands get their share of blame for this shit too and if they were to start incorporating the glorification of mass shootings (especially in schools) into their media, I would be blaming them too.

There's no need to make laws to limit freedom of speech or the press to accomplish this either. If these outlets had any decency, they'd do the right thing as they always claim to be doing it for the betterment of mankind. Their self-righteousness can't beat mine, right?

Not that this example is anywhere near on the same level, but the NFL stopped showing retards running onto the field of play. Used to happen all the time. I bet there's a whole generation of NFL fans that have never heard of an idiot running onto the field during a game to get his face on TV. Just sayin.

If the gun self-identifies as an AR-15, we should respect that.

Braineack 02-21-2018 08:48 AM

if you self identify as an Olympic athlete, should we also respect that?

think of the children:

what horrible fiscal policy:

“These issues about the tax cuts and then the cuts to initiatives that help people, that’s part of the budget. The national budget should be a statement of our national values, what is important to us as a nation,” Pelosi preached. “Which makes us strong and builds for the future should be reflected in our budget.

“But what we have seen here is the complete opposite,” she claimed. “So this isn’t about Democrats or Republicans. This is about the United States of America and our children’s future.

“It can’t possibly be a statement of values for us to talk about, as Martin Luther King said, … ‘God never intended for one group of people to live in superfluous inordinate wealth while others live in abject deadly poverty,’” Pelosi said to applause. “So these are kitchen table issues for most of America’s families. Most people are not in deadly poverty, but some are. But most people have to struggle to …”

At least one woman wasn’t buying it and shouted from the crowd to cut Pelosi off.

“How much are you worth, Nancy?” the woman yelled.

OpenSecrets.org listed Pelosi as the 6th richest member of the House in 2015, with an estimated net worth of $100,643,521. The staggering wealth makes Pelosi the seventh richest person – and richest women – in Congress.

According to SJW logic, yes.

That having been said, the UN continues to refuse to acknowledge my preferred identity as the Chancellor of Germany...
