The Current Events, News, and Politics Thread
Well, I do live here. Even during the worst of the last drought I was using well over 2000 gal/day (yes, no typo) due to large yard with extensive landscape. They made websites to help people spy on others water usage and still no one ever said boo to me. They just mailed me water bills that looked more like mortgage payments. In the end, it's all political. There's more than enough water; just depends on how they allocate it. As with all things political though, it never hurts to throw a good bit of fear mongering into the mix to keep the sheep in line.

it is interesting, but all the lakes are shriveling up. some naturally (Lake Mead), some seem to be on purpose (Diamond Valley). I used to live right by Diamond Valley reservoir. It took 6 years to fill with maximum depth of 260 ft. then they shut off the fill pipe and let it dry up. sits at about 150 now. reason given? Quagga mussels. so we stop saving water to stop the inevitable spread of a mussel? Its been shown that birds deliver the invasive mussel to new waterways just as effectively as boats with standing water. WTF?
holy **** thats a narrow scope of perception. ^^^^ on the day that wall mart wanted to look so good for giving tiny bunuses (the scale was laughable) they also closed like 250 stores. because cheap taxes?

why is it okay for workers for protest and demand more pay, but it's not okay for a business to maximize/increase, or better yet, even have, profits?

Liberals seeking to move to Canada because they are unhappy with the election results are finding that Canada won’t take them because its immigration policies exclude those who won’t contribute to the economy.
One of the policies of President Donald Trump that has some Democrats claiming they want to jump ship is his pledge to limit immigration from people whose lives in America would be dependent on welfare. Trump promises “extreme vetting” before accepting immigrants or refugees.
But Democrats looking to move from the U.S. to Australia, Canada and other wealthy English-speaking nations are learning that those nations already have similar policies.

majority of those companies that are benefiting most from new tax laws, never had a problem to begin with. As a small business owner, I benefit ZERO from new laws.
from a Chicago tribune article.. Put another way, the new tax law is giving America’s wealthy not one but two big windfalls: They stand to gain the most from the tax cuts for individuals, and they’re the big winners from the tax cuts for corporations.

Because the stores weren't meeting some specific profitability goal. Talk about conflating to unrelated items.
completely related. "Look at how good we are to employees now, hugely great, very great bonuses" quietly hands out mass layoffs. Your right though, it really came down to a specific profitability goal. Salivating at next years projections from the absent billions, no longer paid in taxes.
