Carrying pepper spray and mace with the intention to defend oneself against a human attack is currently illegal in Canada; a citizen there can be charged with carrying a concealed or restricted weapon if caught doing so.

Without affordable housing seniors spend a disproportionate amount of their income on rent.

It's morally repugnant for the Conservatives to claim we have a surplus when we have 30,000 people sleeping on the street.

Are off duty cops allowed to carry their weapon on private property if it's prohibited on said property? Not sure why the cop feels persecuted. If it was legal, then the professor should have asked and stood told the student. If it's prohibited, then I'm not sure why it matters if he was a cop or not.

It's kind of funny actually. Both conservatives and liberals love feeling outraged while feeling that their outrage is somehow justified.

Re: Shakespeare.
It's an English department. Not an Elizabethan English department. I wonder if all the folks outraged about this have ever even read Shakespeare without being forced into it.

Hell, I'd rather read Faulkner.

Sixshooter, Hemingway wasn't English either. Some of the best contemporary English literature in the last decade has come from the diaspora, not England or even the U.S.for that matter.

If police officers are anything like federal agents they would be exempt from many if not all firearms restrictions even when off duty. I had a forensic accounting professor that was active FBI and the director of white collar crime in the local field office who talked about how he could carry essentially everywhere including planes and court houses and was expected to have a gun on him at all times because he is never actually off duty.

Yeah, that would make sense. I'm just not sure how it would work if you were actually a student vs. A parent visiting etc. Ie which rules supercede the other. Obviously federal law wins, but I wasn't sure if someone being uniformed changes things...

Are off duty cops allowed to roam around in uniform or is that not permitted or looked down upon. I wonder if it depends on the city/precinct.

I was being facetious with the English comment.

State sworn officers (which includes local Po and Sheriff) are only disallowed in certain federally controlled areas. It matters not what policy an individual may espouse regarding their own property or business. and they are specifically exempt from the policies of schools.

DA's also, I understand.

One Son-in-law, who was a county deputy, hated to be a witness in Federal trials because he would be in uniform, but had to relinquish his weapon. He felt like a target in the courtroom.

These both appear to be satire. I am like 90% sure they are satire. Except it bothers me that I can't be absolutely sure.

I'm just impressed with his ability to switch back and forth between "you're" and "your" four times in the span of eight sentences.
