That would still put his hand at risk. I'm surprised they havent done a offset handle so the firearm can hang off to the side while the cop is cowering behind the wall.
On a side note i'm sure many of you have heard of seanpaul rayez.
He's a 1st amendment auditor that's being charged with trespassing and causing a disturbance.. The state’s attorney literally said it was a “Stupid Infraction Trial”
We'll see how that ends.

On Monday he was found guilty of simple trespassing, not guilty of causing a public nuisance, and fined $90. Your tax dollars at work - I’m sure it cost at least $5-10k to prosecute.
