CBO nearly triples estimate of working hours lost by 2021 due to Affordable Care Act

A historically high number of people will be locked out of the workforce by 2021, according to a report by the Congressional Budget Office released Tuesday.

President Barack Obama's signature health-care law will contribute to this phenomenon, the CBO said, citing new estimates that the Affordable Care Act will cause a larger-than-expected reduction in working hours—eliminating the equivalent of about 2.3 million workers in 2021.

In 2011, the CBO estimated the law would cause a reduction of about 800,000 full-time equivalent workers.

The Belarusian Connection | Washington Free Beacon

U.S. intelligence agencies last week urged the Obama administration to check its new healthcare network for malicious software after learning that developers linked to the Belarus government helped produce the website, raising fresh concerns that private data posted by millions of Americans will be compromised.

The intelligence agencies notified the Department of Health and Human Services, the agency in charge of the Healthcare.gov network, about their concerns last week. Specifically, officials warned that programmers in Belarus, a former Soviet republic closely allied with Russia, were suspected of inserting malicious code that could be used for cyber attacks, according to U.S. officials familiar with the concerns.

Obamacare enrollees hit snags at doctor's offices - latimes.com

A month into the most sweeping changes to healthcare in half a century, people are having trouble finding doctors at all, getting faulty information on which ones are covered and receiving little help from insurers swamped by new business.

Experts have warned for months that the logjam was inevitable. But the extent of the problems is taking by surprise many patients — and even doctors — as frustrations mount.

Aliso Viejo resident Danielle Nelson said Anthem Blue Cross promised half a dozen times that her oncologists would be covered under her new policy. She was diagnosed last year with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and discovered a suspicious lump near her jaw in early January.

But when she went to her oncologist's office, she promptly encountered a bright orange sign saying that Covered California plans are not accepted.

...

To hold down premiums under the healthcare law, major insurers have sharply cut the number of doctors and hospitals available to patients in the state's new health insurance market.

Now those limited options are becoming clearer, and California officials say they are receiving more consumer complaints about access to medical providers. State lawmakers are also moving swiftly to ease some of the problems that have arisen.

"It's a little early for anyone to know how widespread and deep this problem is," said California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. "There are a lot of economic incentives for health insurers to narrow their networks, but if they go too far, people won't have access to care. Network adequacy will be a big issue in 2014."

I find it cathartic. As I ride this hamster wheel of doom to its inevitable end, it's nice to know that someone else gets "it".

Watch Out for Obamacare's Subsidy Cliff: Earn $1 More in Wages, and You Could Pay $20,000 More for Insurance | The Weekly Standard

Obamacare offers Medicaid to people earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty line in states that opted into the program, and it provides subsidies to people earning above that amount, up to 400 percent of the federal poverty line. As your income increases, the subsidy decreases.

...

The Obamacare subsidy cliff is so steep that if you earn just $1 above the threshold, you could end up paying anywhere from a few thousand dollars to $20,000 more for insurance, depending on your age.

CBO Director: Obamacare

Testifying before the House Budget Committee yesterday, Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Elmendorf said of Obamacare, “[T]he act creates a disincentive for people to work.” He declared, “[B]y providing heavily subsidized health insurance to people with very low income and then withdrawing those subsidies as income rises, the act creates a disincentive for people to work—relative to what would have been the case in the absence of that act.”

Elmendorf, a Democrat, tried to claim that these people who would “have less of an incentive to work” would be “better off,” but Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan was having none of it.

Ryan replied, “I guess I understand the ‘better off’ in the context of health care. But better off in inducing the person not to work who’s on the low-income scale, not to get on the ladder of life, to begin working, getting the dignity of work, getting more opportunities, [raising] their income, joining the middle class, this means fewer people will do that. That’s why I am troubled by this.”
"Democrats said any downside to Obamacare will be offset by benefits — such as people having the freedom to retire early or spend more time as stay-at-home parents because they no longer will have to depend only on employers for health insurance."

They need to start replacing "democrats" with "socialists".

AOL CEO: 'Obamacare Is an Additional $7.1 Million Expense For Us' | The Weekly Standard

The CEO of AOL, Tim Armstrong, said on CNBC this morning that "Obamacare is an additional $7.1 million expense for us as a company."

"We have to look at our benefits programs very seriously," said Armstrong. "In the CEO chair, let me give you an example of the decisions we have to make as a company: Obamacare is an additional $7.1 million expense for us as a company. So we have to decide whether or not to pass that expense to employees or whether to cut other benefits."
Honestly I had no idea AOL was still a company, much less had $7.1 million to spend on healthcare, much less paychecks, much less anything, much less etc.

Talk about putting lipstick on a pig!

It would at least make me feel better if I knew that these guys got the heebie jeebies from themselves for lying so blatantly all the time. People like Reid and Pelosi seem to bath in it.

You have to pass the bill in order to see it keeps people at home, not contributing to the economy, and dependant on the state in order to just make it by in life.

There was a time that you'd have people on the other side who would actually argue FOR Obamacare. Now even liberals see that it's a train wreck. The only thing left is to lie, lie, lie until the next crisis comes along and knocks it out of the spotlight.

I would have hoped that there were still some liberals with integrity, who would step up to fight against Obamacare after seeing how it hurts people of all ages and from every economic strata.

but that doesn't make sense, most people are liberals so they can feel better about themselves for pretending to be the champion of the little people while always doing the exact opposite while oppressing others and denouncing the fascism that they actually love.

Jails enroll inmates in ACA to pass hospital costs to U.S.
Jails enroll inmates in ACA to pass hospital costs to U.S. - Articles - Health Insurance Exchange

By Mark Niquette

February 6, 2014

(Bloomberg) — Being arrested in Chicago for, say, drug possession or assault gets you sent to the Cook County Jail to be fingerprinted, photographed and X-rayed. You’ll also get help applying for health insurance.

At least six states and counties from Maryland to Oregon’s Multnomah are getting inmates coverage under the Affordable Care Act and its expansion of Medicaid, the federal and state health care program for the poor. The fledgling movement would shift to the federal government some of the more than $6.5 billion in annual state costs for treating prisoners. Proponents say it also will make recidivism rarer, because inmates released with coverage are more likely to get treatment for mental illness, substance abuse and other conditions that can lead them to crime.

When someone gets discharged from the jail and they don’t have insurance and they don’t have a plan, we can pretty much set our watch to when we’re going see them again,” said Ben Breit, a spokesman for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

In my 10yrs. of dealing with criminals there were *maybe* 2% that would benefit from mental healthcare IF they even went. Now my fed. taxes will increase to pay for the other states criminals since I have no state tax here. 98% of criminals I had dealt with would get out and beat the crap out of their girlfriend again or beat some store clerk for $5 again whether or not they had health insurance. The govt. will be paying for their policy even though it may never be used. Sounds like a real savings for the middle class....
