It's the mode they use for "Dyno Drags" as they're called in the land down under. Or as we would call it here, a dyno competition for dyno queens and bragging rights. Dyno Dynamics are notorious for being "heartbreakers," which doesn't sell well when you're just out for the biggest numbers you can possibly get. This mode helps that.

Of course, if calibrated/corrected properly, it's still not really a big deal, but i'm just saying if you want big numbers, you run in shootout mode. I'd also be interested in knowing how many other people ran that day.

In the real world, it's entirely likely that this is more like a 180-190whp car that would get dick-stomped by pretty much anything.

It was my understanding that you run in shootout mode when doing power plots, otherwise it would be in a different mode if you were actually doing load tuning.

Dyno Dynamics Dynomometers - evolutionm.net

While there is some science to it (DD does a lot of engine and chassis dyno testing), it's still an estimate.

I don't use it because nothing short of an engine dyno can properly measure flywheel output. It's a neat feature to show those who don't understand why wheel hp is so much lower than rated flywheel hp.

Using Shootout Mode on our dyno, most EVOs are putting down 260-270 hp. And WRX are making 220-230 hp. So, it can be quite accurate.

Dyno Dynamics are actually accurate, so Im guessing "shootout mode" should be called "dynojet mode".

Ok here goes,

So I post someone elses car.

It has a 2" press bent exhaust.

It is someone elses car.

It makes 210rwhp on someone elses dyno.

I am surprised that it makes 210 despite all of the things 'wrong' with it. I post so people can see a non typical arrangement and see the results.

It is someone else car.

How difficult is it to understand that it is someone elses car?
It just isn't up to me whether the guy puts a catback on it, so I did the best that could be done which is convince him to add a 3" cat and make the 3" downpipe as long as possible.

All the guys saying their catback cost 400 or 150 in parts etc, that's fine, IN AMERICA.
the magnaflow 22" muffler that is popular, I have used before, it costs over 400 dollars posted here.

Also can you guys whinging stop forgetting that this is someone elses car, and if they want a catback, even if it didnt cost 600-800 in components for a street friendly quiet one, there is no way I am going to just go ahead and build it for free. As an example the FM turbo exhaust costs over 1000 dollars before postage. Here a similar system is double that. Would you bitch at FM for not putting 400 dollars worth of components on for free? (ie: its somebody elses ******* car, OMG, how hard is this?)

I also tried a slash cut on this car and tried the cam cover and catch can mods MT has suggested in the past. Slash cut didn't work with the small exhaust which I suspected might happen, the rest is flawless.

TLDR : Not my car, catbacks here cost 6-800 in components, and I am not building it for free, you convince him to put another 1200 down.

Dann

PS: wormdrive clamps are totally reliable at 15psi on well prep'd surfaces.

They just spent the last 5-ish posts clarifying that it is not, in fact, 210whp but 210 estimated crank HP which nobody GAF about.

That is something that virtually NOBODY would ever build.

Your post would have made more sense if you said something like "guys, customers can be really frustrating, here's why: he had me build this sweet downpipe but made me hook it into a 2" exhause. SMH."

as opposed to:

"isn't this inane setup interesting? Let's learn from it."

No. There's nothing positive to be gained. Sucky exhaust is sucky.

Lol.

Come on dude, lighten up a bit.

It's not my dyno either, I didn't even notice shootout mode nor do I have any way of comparing this exact dyno to any other.

So basically what you are saying is don;t post anything like this again because you don't want to see it and nothing can be gained from seeing it?

Yes or no answer, go ahead.

Ya know Dann, I've always tried to give you the benefit of the doubt. I felt like you did a good job on that first car, especially considering the constraints you were working with on the previous owner.

But now you're just being a douche.

I'm saying don't post crap that nobody is going to learn anything from. Who the hell is going to see the post on this most recent car and say "Oh man, I feel enlightened! I'm going to spend a pile of money getting a custom manifold and downpipe built and then spend money to have a smooth transition hand made so I can run my standard cat-back! Brilliant!"

Whoever would say that would be banned here within 15 minutes.

Your excuse for not knowing what shootout mode is moot, because AFTER people explained what it is, you're continuing to parade a 210whp claim... which is weak, anyway. It's just inane dude.

If you read my other posts you'll find I'm one of the more lighthearted guys here and try to avoid negativity. But you've got a negative cloud around you due to your perception of the site. I am of the opinion that this is the best damn online community on the internet. You are of the opinion that it is poisonous. IT'S THE SAME COMMUNITY.

Thanks.

But now you're just being a douche.

I am getting sick of the way the site is going, the PM's I've received from long term members suggest I am not the only one.

Brilliant!"

Of course they are not, however I was surprised as to what it made, and in my first post I simply showed the setup and said "Just as a data point". Those were my exact words, I didn;t suggest anyone should do it at all. I even posted an original dyno to go along with it so people can decide for themselves and take from it what they wanted, why this leads to bashing me for posting this, I have no idea.

Whoever would say that would be banned here within 15 minutes.

Again I said "Just as a data point".

I am not continuing to parade ****, I never was, I explained why I posted the original post, that is all. At the time no one knew or realised that the numbers are exaggerated. I also posted "not my dyno or even my city". So no I wasnt parading and nor am I parading anything, so get off your horse.

If you read my other posts you'll find I'm one of the more lighthearted guys here and try to avoid negativity. But you've got a negative cloud around you due to your perception of the site. Read this a second time through and understand why even though you are a laid back one, you are still talking out your **** and trying to insult me, and this is the problem with MT.

That's my answer, anyways, it's 8.45am here, I am going to build more shitty setups, cyas.

If you are going to post (A) seemingly messed-up setups without prefacing why they are seemingly messed-up and (B) seemingly messed-up dyno plots to support those seemingly messed-up setups, then the answer is "yes," don't ever post again.

That's a stupid response to a stupid question.

Instead, if you had led with, "here is a compromised setup and here is why it has those compromises" and then said "and here is a weird-looking dyno chart that seems to indicate it makes more power than I expected," I sincerely doubt people would have jumped down your proverbial throat.

So none of you know that these cars aren't mine and that I build these every week?

You don't read these threads?

The first post here clearly states that here is one setup I just finished and here is a dyno and a shot of the other.

Like I own 2 Na6's as well as the 300whp one and all of the cars I post in the fabrication thread?

Are you guys dense?
Is the preface really required? I mean, if it is, you guys are dense. Brain and 18 I know are trolling but... anyways..

My bad. I meant customer. I was thinking customer.

Ya just don't get it bro. Whatevs. I really don't get why you keep accusing us of being dense, or thinking that you own these cars. I'm pretty sure nobody thinks that. I know I don't think that.

Ugh. Why am I still here? *unsubscribed*

So if you read that I was posting it simply as a data point, and that it isn't my chart, just the one I was sent, and that someone else owns the car, therefore it is their decision what parts go on, why do I get flamed?

If you understand all of that, which I assume everyone relevant does, than do I

a) explain it even more, or every time I post

b) post the info as a data point, and let people see it to either learn, or confirm their beliefs

c) don't post anything that isn't an EFR 1.9L with a 3" system, ms2 and E85

d) continue pointing out that everyone gets flamed beyond ridiculous here, despite understanding the preface to a post that is posted as just a data point.

e) understand that everyone on the site is either a troll or an idiot

?

Dann

Edit: In future ill assume everyone has an IQ of 73 and the memory of a goldfish, and Ill preface everything even more than I did the post everyones panties are bunched up about.
