Clean it up, slap it back together, put a BP4W head on it with your shitty clutch, learn2tune, make supporting mods, then build a turbo engine. I'm gonna guess that VVT head is going to need work, the shims don't just pop out and everything is fine.

This entire thread is a convenient curation of every terrible question/idea that most people who don't research ask. The difference is that most people only ask 1 or 2 of them before they realize they aren't ready and need to do a lot more research. Or they rage quit.

Also you can sell said new stock clutch, add money and get a proper clutch from the get go.
If you install it, it will have zero value and you will spend money twice. And twice the labor.
Well, more than twice the labor, since its cake to put a clutch with engine on a stand, but a bitch to pull transmission off an assembled car.
I don't think anyone on this forum is thin enough to pull a transmission out of a Miata while it's on the ground. Not to mention you couldn't move the transmission out of the tunnel.
Ever pulled a transmission with the car in the air? 50x easier.
Ill buy a better clutch. I can’t return this clutch, it came with the car when I bought it. I’m not losing any money by using it.
Maybe I can sell it, if I do then I’ll put some more money in and get a better clutch. It’s gonna be a while before the engine is ready to go in the car anyway.
well... yes, i pulled and reinstalled 2 transmissions on 2 miatas, both in my driveway, on Jack stands.
its a royal BITCH to do, you need to remove manifold down pipe, exhaust midpipe, driveshaft, ppf, underbody nb2 bracing, center console and rubber boots and/or shifter, not to mention the PAIN IN THE *** bolts that actually hold the transmission, starter, clutch line, and electrical wires.
with a proper lift its a bit easier, but its still a bitch to do. With a million things that need to be removed and reinstalled.
Having done it a few times myself I would pay a few hundred extra dollars just not to have to do it twice because my time has significant worth. It is certainly not that I can't or won't do it.
I see it as being similar enough to the story of the young bull and the old bull standing on a hill.
i've replaced the transmission myself under jackstands as well. 0/10 would not reccomend. I'm either pulling the engine w/ trans next time or paying a shop to do it.
Assuming the car in question isn't leaky and/or rusty garbage, i really don't get the hate. I mean, it's not something i do to unwind on a Saturday afternoon, but it's not bad at all. It's less fun with a Qmax AND a Racing Beat header still attached, but it's a walk in the park if it's just one or the other.
IMO the PPF is the hardest part. And the slow realization that just about every time you do this job you're going to need to replace the shifter boots.
Leave PPF on car. Slide it off the trans, leave it attached to diff. Remove shifter boots with shifter first. (i personally haven't ever had one re-tear after i replaced it the first time)
Maybe it's just the desert air, but it feels like every time I can see my upper boot it's torn. Tried rubber conditioner, 303 Aerospace protectant. On boot 3 so far, haven't seen it in a couple years....
I'm guilty of being stubborn sometimes too but damn. It's nearly impossible to change someone's mind though.
(Also, for what it's worth, I don't any issues with the forum with either my old *** Note3 or my computer, and I have the infinity scroll and thread suggestions on)
