Whoops forgot Wideband so +$250 for that

but I think I actually paid $2300 for the car so -$100 for that.

Total = $5250

and you'll have a pointless awful miata with lots of power but stock suspension, no roll-bar, shitty wheels and tires, dented door, etc. etc.

I have stock suspension, free wheels, no roll bar, and a dented door. :( I don't consider my Miata pointless.

I don't see much budget for machine work in these hypothetical lists. Are these stock piston / bottle brush builds? No resurfacing of deck and head? No inconel ? Radiator? Reroute? I guess if you don't care about reliability you can do it a couple of times for 15 seconds like the quarter mile street kids. Until it explodes.

Their idea of 300whp miata is 1 300whp pull on the dyno.

For those 20 seconds or less, they're free

Can't believe how much butthurt has been going on in this thread.

Leafy's post, while silly, does prove that someone with fab skills could do it for around $3k. Did that need to be proven? Not really, because fab skills make everything cheaper. Also, welding gas/wire/tips/gloves/helmet are not free, and neither is time.

Luke's list is more realistic and covers most things it seems... but there are still little stupid costs like oil, coolant, lines, etc that add up quickly.

And Dillon, I don't get it but your car feels freaking solid. R package FTW.

Stock pistons, "doing it the hard way" with rods and bearing from the bottom so no need to do the HG, and dont tell me its not possible to do rods from the bottom I know a guy who did it on a miata with the engine still in the car, he was not a smart man, but did it anyways. Inconel what? How many hundreds of BEGI and FM kits were sold before people even knew inconel was a word? Radiator? Stock is sufficient for a street car? Re-route? Yeah it would be nice, not needed.

Lets take a poll of how many people in this thread have achieved what is being discussed?

Next lets take a poll of how many people in this thread at any point even built a 300whp miata, regardless of cost.

I'll go get a cup of coffe, someone set up a poll.

I love how 90% of the information you post is pulled directly from your colon.

I'm convinced you're trolling.

You need a big garage to park a semi.

In my case yes, no machine work, stock piston with ball hone drill "re-honing"

No resurfacing of deck and head? No inconel ?
As of right now, no resurfacing. Inconel what?

Radiator? Reroute?
I do have a $120 ebay rad but I didn't list it, I also blew the bank on a M-tuned reroute, but sort of forgot about that. I did thousands of track miles in my last turbo miata at about 230-240whp without one, not necessarily a good idea but

Anyway, do you have to have a reroute for a street car to make 300whp, no, is it smart idea, probably not.

I guess if you don't care about reliability you can do it a couple of times for 15 seconds like the quarter mile street kids. Until it explodes.
Define reliability...

Will my build be "reliable" enough to finish the 25 Hours at Thunderhill.....no, it's not that reliable.

Will it last 30k mile at ~300whp on e85 in a lightly abused street car....maybe?

This thread is stupid, I need to actually finish building my motor, install it and dyno it at 275whp before returning to this lamefest

I think I did it one time when I neglected my boost control settings and spiked 20+psi when I had the 2870.

Then I realized I was driving a car with bad paint, horrible interior, shitty studs, exhaust leaks, no coolant reroute, stock radiator, tiny downpipe, shitty turbo, fail brakes, etc....

Yeah, 5k went quick. But it all goes towards having a nice street car. Driving around a fast turd is fun and "yolo" but it gets old really quick. I'd rather drive around Emilio's 94R package than my car with my heavily mod'd FM3. Any day. Wouldn't think twice even with half the power. A nice driving car is a nice driving car. Power should come second when you can afford to do it correctly.

Apparently we are a dying breed and should just give way to all these $20 dollar builds as "the way of the future"

To add more lols to the thread I almost hit 300 hp with, gasp, a supercharger. Made 288hp and shortly after all the intake valves pounded themselves to death. Figure the damage had already started before I dynod it so it could be possible to hit 300. Below adds to 3920 but adding misc costs not listed below it probably has about 4500 into it.

Motor 2200
JY M62 50
DIY MS 2 250
wideband 220
ID1000 300
Header 400

Oh missed we are including the car in this game. Craigslist beater, stock motor and YOLO?
