alright critique my redneckness
alright this is a miata i picked up hasn't seen the road since 01. i'm doing a small turbo setup an evo8 turbo i also used a all metal dsm radiator and i cut up 2 1g intercoolers and welded them up to make a cheap front mount.
i wanted to have shortest route possible for my intercooler piping so i cut out all the front surports then hacked up and rewelded the front brace back in i still have use of the hood latch but have plenty of space for a larger inter cooler down the road. and so far i have nothing invested into the car so far.

yes the intercooler is 4 1/2 inches thick and a single sidemount for the dsm guys will carry them into the low threes before they start to heat soak.
waaaay back in the day when front mounts were $1500 alot of dsmers would cut up stockers and weld them up. i had a few laying around so i figured what the hell and give em a try.

Its not redneck you are doing a turbo kit and saving tons of money while your at it. Its gonna make the same hp as a good ebay kit or better and you won't have 1/3 the money in it. Keep it up I am interested to see how this ends up.

the stock 1G Ic is actually a decent peice for OEM side-mount. It has enough mass to it that thermal inertia alone does a decent job cooling short bursts. With that sqaure shape its not the most efficient, but it certanly gets the job done into the low 200s WHP.
If those work out well, you should check out the stock MKIV Supra IC. I ran one for a long time and its pretty darn good. Physiclly its about the same thickness, but much larger in terms of height and width. They come with plastic endtanks that can be easaly flipped around etc. You could do the same thing. It would be a ton of cooling, though I would worry a bit about the airflow over the rad as a result. DSM rads kick ***. I could cruise in PHX with a coolant temp of 187 all day long.
