after the first day of driving my car when i got it back from the engine builder the car started to stall out when i put the clutch to the floor.
brought it back to the shop where they built the motor and they told me that the clutch (1.8l act hd clutch) caused the problem...
i told them to check out the thrust bearings and to check end play...
they found out that i had chewed up crank and need new thrust bearings
this was the first day after i got the car back......
what caused this?? how could this happen the first day i drove the car after i got it back??

Something wasn't balanced correctly or shitty clearance tolerances. Probably a mix of both or the oil pump wasn't actually pumping. What was the oil pressure reading?

 

the shop said 80psi....
they also said that the clutch had to much pressure and that was the cause of the failure

Short answer... Bullshit, unless you had something very much heavier than an ACT extreme.

Had that too. Lack off oil during initial start...
Had the rebuild engine build up for 6 months, no head on it... Guess some dirt got stuck in the engine.
Trust bearring gone and 2 main bearrings...

Need to replace crank and all bearrings (not terrably expensive) Just a lot of work.

Please let them also check the head.
Any shavings inside the head could really kill it.(don't ask)

 

If they rebuilt the motor they should be held responsible for the failure. Properly polished thrust surfaces and proper thrust clearances would have prevented the failure.

 

i think your right.. if they built the bottom end and the first day driving the car there was problems i knew they most have done something wrong.. theres just no way that my clutch would have done that.. before the motor blew i had at least 400 miles on the clutch with no crank problems... what should i tell them if they try to charge me for the work.. should they charge me labor or just parts on not charge me at all???

They shouldn't charge you at all.
When McDonalds gives you a cheeseburger with mustard when you asked for none do you have to pay for it?

 

Usually they refund your money AND give you the right kind of cheeseburger, but that's probably too much to hope for in this case.

rip some *** man this is bullshit there have been bearing issues over years and months of use with heavier clutches but not days/hours. they messed up and need to fix it it is in the work order, A shop is always liable for there mistakes unless you cuased them directly or you signed a wiaver did you get in there and beat the **** out of the motor? Did you sign a waiver? I wouldnt have. So plain and simple they fix it and you go somewhere else from now on.

 

tell them if they dont fix it your going to the better buisness burea

 

yeah DSM have alot of so called crank walk when using heavy clutches but it is not a night and day thing. Take it back

 

how heavy is your pressure plate anyways? It would have to be rock hard to possibly cause any issues in a short time like that. I, like most everyone else say that this is bullshit.
