Default external waste gate

Is there any benefit to an external wastegate compared to an internal wastegate?
I'm just wondering why someone would spend the money on a turbo then a wastegate then a different manifold if there was no advantage.

A few. More precise boost control and better flow are a couple worth mentioning.

Search. This **** has been beaten to death.

small turbo - iwg
bigger turbo - ewg
as ^ mentioned - better boost control with ewg.

No ****, just last week there was a thread about it in the DIY section. Its really not that expensive to go EWG, and for the better boost control, I personally think it was well worth the extra coin.

An IWG looks like a compromise to me. I had one on the Miata for a while and it did an OK job of holding boost.

The EWG looks like a better design to me and performs better in every way.

I was wondering because I have the opportunity to buy a used AGP turbo that requires external wastegate and I was wondering if its worth it for the $145 for the turbo.and then I will still need a wastegate but if it actually holds boost better then I will do it.
