If you want to get off slider pins you can do a "DIY" willwood kit with mini rotors for cost of calipers plus ~$200.

the car came with 15x7 no name wheels, I'm planning 15x8 949 wheels next summer.

this is what I came up with: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...26272&jsn=2433
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...26272&jsn=2435

does this look right? i got it under 04 1.8 miata brakes.

I really dont want to spend that much, but I also dont want to spend $50+new pads and then ditch them later...

You're WAY over thinking this, no the sport brakes are not worth that much money, especially for a street car. If you do upgrade it needs to be only after you start tracking the car, and then you need to go strait to a wilwood setup. The stock size rotors with functioning calipers and decent pads will be more than enough for you, a 50$ caliper and pads is not a waste of money.

I got two remain calipers from GenericAutoStore for $82 after core trade in. My MS2 with sequential fire upgrade shipped as did my FM clutch. I got both on the forums here for $365 and $360 shipped respectfully. I'll pick up the calipers tomorrow, and order pads then as well. I'm thinking of painting them I know its kinda cliche/ricey but I want some brake bling even if its cheap bling...

Another thing. A few of you recommended ditching the AFR and Boost gauges. I'm really temped to do so, that would free up a little over $300. I think what I'll do is semi perma mount a tablet in or on the dash and just have it read direct from MS via bluetooth. Will that work sufficiently? I have a Galaxy Note phone that I have a mount for but I also run my music off of that (antenna deleted) via bluetooth and I don't wanna have to switch back and fourth all the time for that and gauges. I could pick up a cheap $50 tablet and make a mount out of abs plastic and finish it up with some fiberglass/bondo to hide the charger cable and make it look like a custom job. maybe lol I'm ok with bondo but haven't messed with fiberglass any....

MS2, FM clutch, and calipers all came in today. Ordered: Mazda Comp mounts, timing kit, plugs, plug wires, timing light, FX flywheel, EBC red pads, various small tools, npt tap kit, and some high temp paint . Will update later with prices of each.

Was gonna tinker on it some this weekend but we are going out of town to see family... found out today the wife is pregnant. Freaking. Out.

But I'll need boost to get to the hospital faster so I have to finish this right? (Right?)

Or parts go on a shelf to be installed later.

I left NoVA in 2010. One of the local guys had a nice absurdflow setup built for him, and then was building his motor. Then the kid came along. 8 years later his car is in exactly the same state and parts are on the shelf.

Congrats on the kiddo! We are expecting #3 this July, still turbocharging the Miata. Don't give up on your dreams!

So I ordered a bunch more stuff, timing kit, calipers/pads, spark plugs, plug wires, radiator, clutch, flywheel and some other stuff... all added to the first post with links and prices.

Can I use MS2 to control boost? if so why aren't more people doing this? Heres some more stuff im looking at:

MS boost mod control kit:https://www.diyautotune.com/product/...ntrol-mod-kit/
solenoid:https://www.diyautotune.com/product/...-solenoid-kit/
O2 sensor: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bosch-Wide-Band-O2-Oxygen-Sensor-fits-PLX-AEM-UEGO-30-2001-4100-Autometer-2243/181553353279?hash=item2a456c523f:g:31kAAOSw7NNT-1ku&vxp=mtr

(why not?)
Air temp sensor: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Delphi-Fast-Response-GM-Intake-Air-Temperature-Sensor-IAT-MAT-ACT-Kit/263120880631?hash=item3d433a03f7:g:eCwAAOSw~qNZgir X&vxp=mtr

You need to do a little searching, there are extensive threads on all your questions. In a sentence the boost control of the MS2 firmware sucks, MS3 is much better.

To be honest I'm finding the amount of info on MS2 to be overwhelming. There are about a million places to find info and a lot of it seems to be conflicting is some cases. Setting up MS seems to be the "scariest" part of setting up a "diy turbro". (not to mention the most expensive). I definitely have tons more research to do...

MS2 boost control works fine in open loop, but closed loop sucks. Since you already have MS2, I would just run a MBC, or EBC in open loop (but they'll pretty much do the same thing without closed loop control).

I have an MS3 sitting on my work bench and I'm feeling the same way. Some links you may find useful.

if you decide to go EBC, I have the DIYAutoTune solenoid and some additional fittings for the vacuum lines, never installed. PM me if you're interested.

I've been working on doing the timing change and haven't done much more research... I'm wanting to try and get the MS installed either this week or next. I thinking about just going with this: https://www.diyautotune.com/product/innovate-scg-1-wideband-gauge-and-boost-controler-3882/

It's about the same cost as an EBC (they're about $300 around the web) and comes with the wideband. For the cost of a standalone wideband controller you can get them with the gauge, so i was going to have to spend another $160 ish on that. This one is all in one and, from what I've read, as long as I solder it up instead of crimping it (who does that?) it should work fine as an EBC. No one has reported any issues with the wideband aspect of it.

More info on it here: http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/scg1.php

Then I'll install the clutch and change the rear main seal.

Turbo I'm thinking a td04l from a Subaru. They are about $400. I'll have to get a mani made/modified for it but I've already found the correct flanges online. I'm going to talk to the shop before I buy anything and see if we are going to make one from scratch or just find a mani and change the turbo flange out. I'll have to sort out the coolant/oil lines first too.

I'll probably run 2 or 2.25 inch pipes on the IC just because of the PS/AC.

That's the revised rough draft anyways...

No......no.....and no. You're wondering off the path.

This is an. EBC and it costs less than $60
https://www.diyautotune.com/product/...-solenoid-kit/

This is a cheap WB that'll work just fine, I've used one. $125
https://www.14point7.com/products/sp...a-controller-2

I personally don't see the need for a guage, that's what tuning is for. You can setup the MS to shut the motor down if the AFR's get out of wack.

There are manifolds out there for the TD04, but it's a tiny little turd of a turbo. A T25 based turbo (2554 or 2560) off a Nissan can be had for less than 200$ all day long and there are a ton of cheap manifold and down pipes available.
