Magnaflow muffler install

G - doesn't have the ladder brace.
I've done this method before, it's definitely cool, but on NB's you gotta make that bend pre-muffler much sharper and it comes out as a cheater bend, otherwise it won't clear the ladder brace (and even still you have like .000001" of room to play with)

It looks extremely tight when you fit it up there, especially when routing 3" tubing. You definitely have to have stiff exhaust mounts, no oem old rubber junk since clearances get pretty tight. My closest spots only leave about 1/4" room for exhaust movement, but with poly hangers I have not had any rattling. If yo clock the 5x11x22 just right you can make it work. I even have enough room to re-install my trailer hitch!
It would be soooo easy to do in 2.5" tubing.
With a resonator you might be able to get away with a smaller muffler, but this one does sound awesome. It is a little noisy on the interstate doing 80 with my 4.3 rear end, but cruising 60 and below is very pleseant. It would be better if I swap in the 4.1 rear end.
I have considered adding a resonator like EO2k has on his new exhaust, but down know if my setup really needs it. I love the sound when you get on it and cruising around town is not obnoxios. I do have the louder straight through muffler comparted to the quieter one thats splits to two 2.5" tubes inside the muffler.

Hi all,
Seeing as I heard of it here, I wanted to share a couple of pics of the Magnaflow 12579 install I had done on my turbo'd 94.
It's not a full 3" - because the reason for the exhaust work was to stop a rattle, and secondly I'm still running a tiny turbo in it.
Anyway, the pics:
The first exhaust shop I went to said it won't fit and it's not possible. I rolled my eyes, took my business elsewhere and they got it done with no problems.

quieter: MF 12578 or Borla Pro XS?
Guys, looking for definitive opinion on which is quieter at/around idle: Borla Pro XS 14" or Magnaflow 12578 (5x11x22). I'm replacing the fart can ebay muffler that came on the car, and need it quieter so I don't wake the kids and neighbors when I start it up. Drive the car 60mi roundtrip to work sometimes, so no drone would be a definite plus. Muffler shop swears that the Borla Pro XS will be quieter than even a big MF, plus it'd be way easier to mount since it's basically the same size as the one in there.
Either will be an improvement, but my head gets turned around reading through the threads here on which should be quieter, because I'm not always sure comparisons are apples to apples, and I'm guessing people have way different views on what loud means. The 22" MF 12578 seems to be a favorite for a good and quiet muffler, while other posts have guys saying the Borla is quieter than MF? Cost at muffler shop would be roughly the same: ~$140 installed.
Current setup is turbo, 3", no cat, no resonator. Do I need to add a resonator?
Thanks!

I have not had a Borla on my car in 8+ years, so I can't really compare them. I use the big *** Magnaflow on my turbo setups and so far no one has complained about the noise level. I would highly suggest going with it if you want quite. Cheapest way to get them is from Advance Auto with the TRT41 or TRT30 coupon. You will also want to weld in a 4th exhaust hanger to help hold it up.

Borla ProXS... - LS1TECH
The outside is perfect, but the inside IS AT BEST 2.5"..... IDK WTF Borla is thinking! im really pissed off. I dont want to send it back, i need it. However i cant put this muffler in and expect my engine to flow properly. Ill be running a cutout soon but still. That muffler would most like rob lots of power..
Seems legit.

Can confirm that my Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator/muffler is the same way (This one: Vibrant Performance ::. ). 2.5" O.D., internal is like 2" I.D.... I don't like it, but Vibrant and Borla are doing it. I don't have the entitlement to dispute Borla's design, but not everyone has that self-control. Both companies offer a good product though, I have been satisfied with both in a couple different applications.

I'll be damned! Thanks guys, for the intel on Borla Pro XS. So, between the 12578 (straight through, offset/offset) and the 12579 (two parallel internal routes, center/center), it seems like they're both similarly quiet and flow well, and it just depends on which routing the muffler shop wants?
The $140 quoted includes the cost of the muffler itself and installation. Guess the shops can buy them for much cheaper than we can, even with our discount codes.

If $140 includes the cost of the muffler and install then he is not making much on the install. I can guarantee that wholesale prices on magnaflow mufflers is more then the discount code and speed perks discounts you can get from Advance. But if he is willing to do it all for that price, I would jump on it and never look back.
