OK, next question...instead of opening another thread.
The PNP units are very year dependent; like my 1997. If I want a PNP MS3 unit I think I have to go with MSLabs. DIYAutotune only offers a MS2 right now. I'm assuming this has more to do with the configuration of the plugs than anything.
Let's say that I totally destroy my engine next year and I get a hell of a deal on a low mileage NB engine with VVT I want to drop in. What would be involved on the MS side to get that working if I already have a MS in my car? Is it a simple retune? Thanks.
We carry an MSLabs PnP 96-97 MS3 Basic in our catalog. I don't carry one in stock, but I can order it in.
On the MS side, to get a VVT engine installed, it's a bit of wiring on the engine bay side (different cam/crank sensors, VVT, coils), and then a retune and you're on your way. The ECU is specific to the chassis (more specifically, the wiring in the chassis).
DIYAutotune does have MS3Pro PnP units. I have one. It's not listed on the web site yet. I e-mailed to inquire about an ETA since I knew they where working on a 96-97 unit and they said they had 3 ready on a first come first serve basis. I got the 2nd one. Don't know if they have more ready to go but I'd send them an e-mail and ask if you want to go that route.
I am having one difficult time finding the information, but what are the differences between a unit like this and their normal P&P MS3 that they have on their website for every other miata?
the MSPNP2 is older and based on the MS2 cpu/firmware; you don't want this.
I guess I misspoke. What I meant was, why is that one different in naming and on what is on the unit itself when their other miata offerings look like this.
That one says ms pnp pro where as the new one that was linked says ms3 pro pnp. Looked aesthetically like a different unit. Didn't know if it had some tweakings internally or if they just went with a new sticker.
i think early on they changed the name from MSPNP-PRO to MS3PRO PNP to help avoid confusion with the MSPNP2. so yeah, just a sticker... probably about the same time they started calling themselves amp/efi over diyautotune.
