Mufflers
Pat is right. Though I went with the offset/offset. Not finished yet, but the hard part is resolved. I think the offset/offset minimizes bends and makes the install easier. Clearance considerations: rear sway bar for height, the rear frame post at the exhaust exit and the diff housing at the rear. I don't think any of the OE hanger posts will work because of the muffler size and position. SST Note: pipe type jack stand with a hole drilled and nut welded to it for infinite adjustability- awesome for exhausts built on jackstands.

I've got 2.5" with a cheap "high flow" ebay cat and a straight through 18" magnaflow muffler. It's louder than stock but it's very deep and doesn't drone at all. I love it. It sounds a lot like most of the others here.
Fits nicely with minimal bends and it IS quiet at idle and low rpm. Have yet to romp on it- still more stuff to do while the car is up. Here's install pics and a vid with some idle and low rpm revs.

I used one of the rear tie down posts to bolt up some plate with a hanger stud on the end. Makes for easy install/removal vs. pulling the hanger.

Used the stock hangers on the exit side by just bending them up.

A little over an inch clearance at the diff case and sway bar at the closest point.

Yeah- it's quiet, but there is a deep tone that isn't making it on youtube. This is with a 3" from the internal wg housing all the way back, 200 cell metal cat and 18" glass pack with the louver openings facing oncoming exhaust.

Nice! Thanks for the pics (and vid). Also regarding the muffler dimensions...
Magnaflow doesn't appear to offer any 6x12 ovals. If you check out the Magnaflow site 12578 is listed as a 5x11x22 inch oval. ...but, I've never had my hands on one so I can't vouch for the actual dimensions.
It's 6x12x22 12578. The 18" can is 5x11x18.
I didn't measure the can, just lifted the specs from p-peddler's site. It's big either way, but it does fit with minimal bends regardless of size. Though I think you'd have to go with the offset/offset for the area round the diff. Build it w/o the glasspack and if it's too loud add it in. It was already welded in from the previous setup so I left it in... for maximum hush.
this thing is incredibly quiet at idle, daily driving and under load = awesome
I did a rear shot in an effort to get some audio- all the rattles and squeaks in my car are louder than the exhaust.
Here's a 1-2-3 roll on acceleration with lots of wheel spin- I even rolled into the throttle in 2nd but as I got the pedal down the tires still broke loose. It's just too cold for traction right now. That's followed by steady state hwy cruise and then a 4th gear run from <2k to just under 7k rpm.

You know, I must admit my exhaust got really really quiet after putting the turbo on. I really wasn't expecting this big of a drop in noise. It's very acceptable, and I'm picky on loud exhaust. Mine is a touch louder than stock at any RPM or load.

And for the "not quick enough" part:

I so gotta build a motor.
Did a datalog after install to check spool. The after pull was actually two degrees warmer ambient. Nice difference.

I'm looking at the Magnaflow 12579 for my NB, would it be an easier install for the muffler shop to go with the the center / offset or the offset / offset model instead ?
I have a hitch on there (mtb and motocross bike needs) so it might be a bit more tight than normal.

Order 2 and some pipe and build me one up for my NB. I'll send real Canadian dollars down there - a whole bunch of them.
I wish we had your US prices, sigh.....
