Ok well ill do both for the test one fo sho...
Good news, after looking at the gear its even toothed, so were in luck makes it alot easier.
Since the stuff Dan (Whaamx5) gave me was in such good shape this will probably go faster then I expected. Especially after seeing how miataroadster handled the inner bore.
Dan, or anyone who has a open crank take a measurement to verify something for me later. Basically i will need to know the plateau measurement. I will be taking the same measurement from the oil gear, but would like verification.
Dan, can i destroy this oil pump or do you need it back?
PS What year is this from?
Bad news is that there is more machining here than i though. But i imagine we will be closer to that 150-175 mark

Did anyone read the bottom of that link where they want you (or have them) machine the new oil pump for their gears? I can't imagine that the tolerance on the new factory pumps is that wide open. Maybe it is. It would probably be good to get accurate measurements on a couple of new pumps to see if they really move around that much on those tolerances.

it could be a profit builder for them, just to scare you so you dont do it yourself and save some money
loki, its from a 94 motor...the oil pump suffered some damage, its in 13 pieces, thats how i let my frustration out sometimes...sorry
i will measure the crank plateau if i can figure out what exactly you need measured
and yes, destroy the gears and consider it therapy
woot woot, i figured there would be a lot of machining, those gears are not small by any means, they would be pretty beefy if they werent made out of ***** metal

Well i have been dealing with how to get the profile dead on. Fortunately one of my classmates does modeling profession, and hes not bad with computers either.... haha get it. Man i rock
Anyways as soon as i get access to a high quality scanner we should be in buisness.
The hardest part is making the sin curve that is the profile. But the radii aren't that tight so we should be ok. I did not forget about this. Just been busy. and lazy
