Default EWG Dump Vs. Routed to Exhaust

So the gears in my head have been turning on this for a little while. Reading about boost creep is basically what sparked this idea..

I had Artech make my setup with the wastegate dumping back into the exhaust. I have been thinking about making an interchangeable atmosphere dump tube. Would it be more beneficial to dump to atmosphere? Should I just leave it be? My car is primarily a street car but I'd like to get it on a track a few times over the spring/ summer.

So basically all I'd need is a properly bent tube with a Tial v-band flange welded on one side. The routing would obviously be similar to the dump tube... I would just need to plug the down-pipe with a v-banded plug.

Thoughts?

do you want your car to sound retarded in boost or not?

you should also pay attention to the specific users yapping about creep, then apply weight to their input.

creep happens when you pay insane amounts of money to an old vendor who screws people over and gets blindly defended and protected on the forums due to his good reputation many MANY years ago. but be careful, don't even ask who I'm talking about or we'll all get banned.
I've been here long enough to know exactly who you are talking about lol

I guess I didn't realize exactly how loud it would make it. I figured it would be a little louder but didn't know it was like retarded amounts louder. If thats the case then I will scrap it.

Although, its not like it would be a permanent thing, So I could always just make the switch for track days... But for 1-2hp probably not even worth it.

That EWG tube looks well routed. I doubt you'd have any creep issues.

Mine is dumped to atmosphere mostly for the following reasons in order of importance: It was much much easier to manufacture, easier to install/remove downpipe, I didn't need a flex joint, better performance with regards to spool/power. If it's already a well routed EWG tube into the exhaust, leave it.

I don't mind the extra noise at all, but maybe that has to do with the fact that I'm probably one of the youngest members on this forum. The car is stupid quiet otherwise, 73 DBc at idle, 92 DBc at 5000 rpm wastegate closed, and I could imagine it's well over 110 DBc at full load wastegate open.

Edit: Those DB numbers are measured at 0.5 meters away from the exhaust tip, at a 45 degree angle.

Savington has his wastegate venting to atmosphere on his original absurflow setup. It cracked and fell off I believe, so then he had TurboTim route it back into his exhaust. So I would be hesitant of venting to atmosphere and tracking the car and expecting it to be reliable.

Its not really stupid loud. I've driven an FM setup with an EWG VTA. In boost it just sound like the car is breaking under the hood, but its not really all that silly loud. The car is still under 90db at 75ft with it.

Sav's dump was also quite long and unsupported. One hell of a tuning fork with no flexes. My bad.

My dump is to Atmosphere because I'm lazy but it'd be nice to be blended into the downpipe. On my to do list but it'll never happen. It's loud but far from obscene*. It's not like I ever go full boost past cops on purpose anyway.

*it's not obscene in the car with the top up or down. It is, however, obscenely loud for everyone else which you notice if you are passing underneath an underpass, etc. Woah baby.

I'm tempted by VTA as well.

I love how it sounds in Underdog's video, but I'm not sure how accurate of an impression that really gives.

It sounds just like a naturally aspirated Miata with an open pipe and no muffler. All pleasant turbo sounds are lost. The sound comes right out of the cylinders an out to the air just like it looks like it would if you imagine it without the turbo.

Not a miata but I have internally gated turbo on my daily driver galant with a wastegate dump, and it picked up copious amounts of power over the recirc housing and it doesnt go super loud until you hit full boost, also mine dumps directly at the ground and reverberates and I still have no issues passing sound on quiet days at Portland International Raceway. its a turbo 4 so I imagine the sound will be similar enough. I drive this car 80+ miles a day and unless Im in full boost it is no louder or more difficult to live with when it was recirc.

You dont lose the sweet turbo noises as I can hear my turbo spooling and my BOV opening etc, heres a few videos.
