I have a used Begi segregated downpipe that we are modifying to go into the build. This has the typical dual slip joints, one in the 2" section and one in the 1.5" (waste gate) section, between the flange and the re-entry.

We are thinking, once we get everything positioned, that we will weld up the slip joint in the 2" section to solidify everything (we will have a sliding connection between the DP and the XMSN housing).

For the waste gate pipe, we have this question: Should we leave the slip joint, or replace it with a flex joint?

Only question was if I should be concerned with Air ingress messing with the AFR sensor. If not a problem, then I agree, leave it alone. Was hoping Tim would respond as he does so many EWG etc he would know a lot about the differential expansion issues.

 

I build what's easy to build and install on my car/build fixture. **** the end user. I don't give a **** if their AFR is off or if the thing falls apart after 10 miles. I got their money. ****. Time for 5 guys.

do you have something securing the upper part of the DP to the lower part or is it just a slip? On my old begi divorced DP that didn't have any provision for keeping the two parts together, I had one small cylinder welded on each part and had it held together with a SS band. Begi used to use a spring or bolt to hold them together, but not sure what they're using now

 

It is just as you described. I plan to weld the main pipe sleeve so that it is solid, as mentioned in the opening post, and then leave the waste gate section a slip joint per Tim and Brian's recommendation.

for the record, begi does this on all their current S downpipes.

 

i dont see why a flex pipe would be nessasary

 

They now use an "easy seal clamp".
