Kinda figured that. Not a huge issue. The car drives fine out of boost. Now someone sell me a T3 super 60.

Ok I haven't done any further digging yet but I'm thinking it's the bearings going out. I will confirm this when I get a chance to tear it apart more.

My question now is why did they go out? Just low quality (china charger!) or lack of oil? I run a restrictor, I believe it's a 0.06" opening. When (if) I rebuild the turbo should I put the restrictor back in? Maybe switch to a bigger one? I did remove the restrictor and go for a drive but that didn't seem to help. Though I'm not sure it would if the bearings are already bad.

Ok you were all wrong. I took apart my turbo tonight and found the cause of the noise...

IMAG0108 by Gorillazfan, on Flickr
Only two fins are damaged.

Also you can see that my internal gate was hardly covering the exhaust port.

Now I just have to figure out what to do. Buy another ebay turbo, look for a different turbo, or just drive sans boost...

I don't think so because of the carbon build up, it did probably cause boost control issues though. I think it is very similar. Exactly the same one that underdog used. I think it was a combo of boost cut + over tight bov.

I had this one:
T3 INTERNAL WASTEGATE TURBO CHARGER .48ar

I'm thinking about getting this one:
T3 T4 Turbo Charger Trim 50 A R 63 AR T04E Turbocharger | eBay
Which looks strikingly similar to this one:
T3 INTERNAL WASTEGATE TURBO CHARGER .63ar

I have a freshly rebuilt Super 60 if you were serious about buying one.

Here is the link from when I bought it. https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...-hybrid-68297/ It has never been run since being rebuilt. Will come with feed/drain lines, fittings, intake elbow thing, and wastegate actuator. Everything that I got, you will get.

Did you ever suffer from overboost? The wastegate port overall seems very undersized. Here's my Garret for reference:

I'd guess the uncovered portion would give slow spool/boost.

Plenty of people have, but i've also seen quite a few fail on the first drive.

Yes, recently it was overboosting like a ****. I was going to port it when I got it (as underdog did). But the gate was so close to the edge I decided not to risk it.

yeah crazy, mine isn't like that:

even with the hole enlarged, you can see the flapper still covers it fine.

Lucky duck. Now I'm at a crossroads, buy new ebay unit and try to get the wastegate to line up better or run external. Or I'm looking at a turbonetics t3/t4 57trim. Which will probably be way too big. I also won't make any good power until I get a vvt controller...
