Default Alternator Control. Dead nailed. MS3 / MS3-Pro / MSPNP-Pro

Here is a "leaked" video that I think you guys will appreciate, showing MSPNP-MM0105 alternator control on a 01. This new feature will be included in MS3 firmware soon.

MS3 Alternator Control Menu. There is no "tuning" needed (we've done that for you). Just use the Control Mode called Miata.

so awesome to see this implemented. sad that I don't have a miata to try it on!

does it address the change in MAP at idle as the alternator current increases? that's one thing that always caused me problems. voltage stayed steady but engine speed dipped as load increased to provide more amps.

mind you this is at 900 rpm idle, not 1100...

My warm idle target is 900. The car is still in warmup during the video capture. I am using the idle VE table and idle advance to help maintain idle with increased load. I am very happy with the results.

Now go get yourself a Miata.

If there is a miata out there with a back seat and room for a toddler seat, I'm game.

Tell me about how the alternator charges at startup/warmup. I used to get crazy belt squeal when it was enabled at crank because it would see low voltage and think it was time to charge like crazy. But if I disabled it, then flipping it on would be too abrupt. Does the MS algorithm allow a softer engagement after cranking and startup are settled?

Don't want to be THAT guy, but time table for "soon"? Because now I can't decide whether to install my MS3+X with the alternator control board I bought or wait lol.

See the settings screen capture in post #2. Configurable start up delay, then configurable ramp up time to after-start "charge time" voltage. You can then set a transition to a lower target voltage after a period of time, as desired.

No belt squeal experienced using this mode on my car. I could make the belt squeal using other control methods.

Released as beta today.
Megasquirt MSEXTRA / MS3EFI • MS3 pre-1.3.2 beta 1 released (View topic)

Note that the control mode has been renamed to "high speed field control".

Yes, within the next few weeks. Just wrapping up some loose ends on it, but the hardware is done and ready.

Count me as very interested. If it comes with a base map, then I will be set!

Damn Ben. That's a pretty sweet setup. I think the ramp time and startup delay will make all the difference compared to a simple on/off method.

Good stuff. Did they implement a simple hysteretic control loop?

Will there be a way to mount it included in the box or on the ECU itself? There certain customers who like that sort of thing. This comment does not relate to any other product of yours, something else that has been a pain. Also, AWESOME!

Thats mighty impressive.

Could you possibly try with a large, sudden load (inb4 innuedo), like, a huge SPAL fan turning on? I'm sure it pulls like 30A during start up

There is a hysteretic loop, with a couple of complications on top. Very high speed. minimum "stay in state" is 50uS.

Unsure what you're asking... This is an improvement on a software feature in MS3 EMS. There is no external hardware needed.

I don't have a SPAL fan to try it on, so sorry but no. I tested with other devices, such as power windows (which I had to install on the car as it had no doors). Stock Miata fans don't cause so much as a blip. The response is better than Mazda's control.

This feature is available in MS3 1.3.2 Beta firmware and beyond. You will need to ask Rev about compatibility with his ECUs as I believe he incorporates some custom hardware.
