Heh. Forums are for talking. What did you expect. :-P

Oh yeah, if you've got opamps on there already, then it's a no brainer - the op-amp input was originally used FOR the MK-II sensors, that's how it found it's way into the miata world (more correctly: I popped open my OEM ECU and copied the circuits I found there)... So you're running the official NB circuit readout, you can't ask for more. Really, it should be no trouble at all. It's never as easy as it seems but I would suspect you're looking at 10 minutes of wiring under the hood, you'd never need to open the MS.

Miles away, I'm sure I'm giving up a smidge of power, but stating it's likely to break soon is a bit wide of the mark. If that were the case the 5's engine wouldn't be reputed to take boost so well :P

again I'm not denying a crank trigger is better, but atm I'm fed up on messing with the car for little gain, I'm trying to cencentrate on reliability/drivability.

now that I like the sound of, I can take my time doing the wiring/sensors under the hood, I can even route/source the signals from the CAS plug, cheers Abe!

Any new updates on when this board should be released?

As long as the VVT advance doesn't put you past the crank tooth (I believe Y8s showed it does not) then you should be able to use the OEM sensors just fine. You should be able to switch back and forth no problem, then change one setting in software and see how it goes. Personally, I love tests where you can undo them if they go horrifically wrong. :-) Post in my board thread or spark inputs thread. There will be plenty of folks anxious to help - and I've got some potential customers who want to run my board (op-amp inputs) on their VVT motors.

Twas me but ya.

Don't you wish you could do the same for things like getting married, having a kid, taking that job or buying that house?

Glad to hear it, it'll pay off! Sit there with an timing light and you'll know.

CHeers Abe, my CPK and CMK circuits are as per the MSII guide

http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_4g63.htm

so I do't think I need to do much bar wire the two sensors up and change the software settings.

I'm just taking my sweet time making a nice harness

I'd highly recommend the dual op-amp circuit talked about in the other thread and used with great success (several folks have built this circuit and seen their drops and cut outs stop) in my adapterboard (several folks are driving around with it happily).

Again, we're cluttering up this guy's thread, let's start a new one? Either way, good luck and I'll be happy to help any time via IM, email, or a subscribed thread.

Just pulling this up to ask if there's been any progress on the VVT controller.

I installed the final board revision in the car a week ago and have been testing it through last weekend's auto-x and the duration of the week. I was hoping the latest software revision was going to be "the one" but it's hit a snag. I believe that I corrected it this weekend, but we'll see. I put 50 miles worth of various logs on the car and controller today. It's funny how different the car is with the OCV disconnected.

The two major items on my punch list are as follows:
-Reliable and solid bootloader operation
-Help File/Manual

My goal is to have all said and done no later than next month, if not sooner.

The latest setup that I have yet to post:

Looks like an MS box to me.

Just worry about how intense the wiring for it would be, i bought an MSPNP to get away from that. >.>;

The wiring is pretty straight forward and, like the MS, it incorporates a D-style connector, but only 15 pins. I used this connector for overall availability and price (especially in low quantities) and size. The same pretty much goes for the enclosure. I wonder if B&G had a similar thought process when originally developing their box. I had no intentions of making it look like the MS, but it just happened to work out that way.

In all, everything will be documented in the included help file .

Kevin,

Does it have the circuit built in to directly understand the stock cam and crank sensors? If so will I be able to have the signals then goto MS without needing to build the circuitry for it?

That's correct. You can set the controller to output either an NA CAS signal or an NB cam/crank signal to the MS. In other words, you won't have to change a thing on your MS if you're currently using a CAS and furthermore, won't have to build any additional hardware.
