let's see, work I would need to do to get a free GTX (assuming it would be free) running - get a new exhaust manifold. v-band, EWG - get an EWG - add EWG pipe to downpipe - add BOV to intercooler pipe - drill v-band housing bolts for safety wire Not only it would take at least $1500, but my car would be out of commission for a month (more like 2 months) -get a t3 hotside with vband outlet -run IWG (since your motor won't care about boost creep) -use current downpipe I see maybe about 5-700 worth of stuff needed and when you finally get the EFR replacement you will be the 1st person to test these against each other and win at life:D

EDIT: Vlad beat me to it. |
Ir you are already running the Inconel studs I do not understand why you need the V-Band housing for the GTX. You would just need flange on the downpipe changed. Then grab a cheap ebay knockoff BOV and use that for the time being. With EBC and stock IWG you should be fine boost wise.

If vband housing outlet wasn't available then garrett's standard IWG turbine + something like this would probably fit inside the length of the EFR IWG housing. Then no downpipe change needed. Simple.

I could run one of those ebay garrett-to-v-band adapter. but they are awful.
I don't want to do things half-assed for the sake of having a running car. I took shortcuts before and had an awful car. If the replacement EFR blows before the defect is fixed for good, I'll park the car and think if I want to wait for Borg Warner to get their ---- together or just redo the setup with another turbo. |

Awful why? I built one for my car and it was fantastic.
I guess I could pay you to make me an adapter like that but again, it boils down to one fact - I want to drive my car. Now. Not next month, but now. Vlad - I thought you can use a normal T25 housing on the GTX2860? |
You should go with the GTX just so you can dyno it and get a real life comparison. Hell if you do that, I will pay for the dyno time for 3 pulls. This way we actually get a good back to back comparison of the difference between the 2 turbos.

Sure, if they work, but they seem to be failing at a high rate.

If its t2 then yes, of course you can just use the regular ol housing.

AFAIK, Borg has not only changed turbine wheel suppliers, but they've also made the wheel thicker and beefier. It's not fair at all to paint future EFRs with the brush strokes of the first two dozen units.

I would imagine you have information we don't about EFRs that you can't legally share with us. However, what is your opinion on the next batch? Is it something we can rely on 100%, or would you say it is a wait and see deal to see if they fixed their issues? How confident are you with this supplier and turbine wheel change? |

I really admire your positivity througout this crap, and your determination to keep everything top notch and not cut corners.
I'd just hate to see you 3k in the hole with 2 blown borgs waiting for a 3rd with no serious ETA. Oh and also I secretly want you to dyno a GTX for us:giggle: |

Also, I wonder if there was any Garrett involvement here - http://zilvia.net/f/chat/455518-efr-...c-failure.html 05-24-2012, 04:42 PM

Early production model turbo, rumor is this was a problem. Raffi at FullRace is a good sport, helping me sort this out. Keep you guys posted.
