Any benefit from the 4-tooth to 36-2? Assume higher resolution would help when tuning? Still work with stock crank sensor?

Will be using MS3 ECU on a VVT engine.

I purchased a used ATi damper, was about to install and found that the 4 tooth wheel was loose. The four small counter sunk bolts were tight but wasn't clamping the wheel (between the clamping ring) it was like the wheel wasn't thick enough. The wheel is 1.25mm (0.049) thick. Is this normal? Due to it being loose it has flogged out the holes so now it wouldn't detect accurate timing.
Suggestions? I guess I need to buy another one, that is thicker. Its a race engine should I go a 36 wheel?
