Black Soft Tops
Anybody with black soft tops have problems keeping their interiors cooler? I am in need of a new roof on my black and tan miata and was considering going to a black soft top.
Yeah, I've had black leather interior before, tinted windows pretty much covered it. But since my interior is tan I don't think it will be too bad...Also, there isnt a lot of window space. I just worry about heat radiating in from the roof itself.
I live at the beach in SoCal. I've never found the black top to really be an issue. Black top/black interior, and the car still cools off really quickly when you open the windows. Yes, it does get hot inside. I've experienced worse in larger cars with a rear hatch window, etc... heating up because of the black color and the greenhouse effect. I think the limited interior space of the Miata (surfaces and air space) allow it cool down faster than any other black-topped car I've driven.
Japanese cows make shitty leather. I swapped my whole interior on my 95' M just to get rid of the cheap leather and weird shade of tan. I had a 96' M and just hated the hot seats and John Boehner "tan".
I actually think it's cooler in my S2000's black interior and soft top than it is in my Miata's tan interior and soft top. The s2k seats are lightyears better than the Miata seats. I'm actually buying a friend's black cloth Miata seats to replace the tan leather Miata seats I have now. Less light reflection on the interior probably helps reduce the heat in combination with tinted windows.
