Can a trans fit in the passenger side of a miata?

Tranny's fit perfect in the trunk. All four kinds, 5 speed, 6 speed, automatic and crossdressers all belong in the trunk. Why would you want to haul one in the interior?
Seriously though. Why inside? The tail shaft fits into the left opening in the trunk and the bell housing rests with plenty of clearance for the trunk lid.

My trunk is full of other crap. Picking up a spare trans Saturday and figuring out the logistics, might need to pick it up in the miata itself.

I want to install it, but the plan is getting rid of the POS current one. I'd tired of a tranny the sounds like it has straight cut gears, shifts awful, and whistling with light revs.

Cause I worry and over think things? I'm trying to prevent having to drive 45 minutes in the opposite direction to pick up my altima just to grab the trans. I planned on leaving the car on jackstands in my parent's garage AFTER I picked it up. then it's a new clutch and swap and then fabricating a new exhaust.

I took my new 6speed for a 2.5 hour drive in the passenger seat and then came back with the 5speed in the passenger seat. It was a bucket seat so there was more clearance, but I didn't have any problems fitting it. They wanted to roll around which was fixed by wedging some extra towels under it. My car smelled like *** for 2 weeks after that from the redline synthetic diff oil.
