Default Convince me to keep these cars!

Someone please convince me to keep the miatas! I don't want to get rid of them Found out the gf is pregnant(about 2 months at this point) and we've gone into save money mode. We've already sold a bunch of unnecessary **** and downgraded a lot of things and started a baby savings account now up to around 550 bones. Now she thinks the miatas are going to be a bad, unpractical idea, I'm not so sure though. We have 3 cars...an 04 Altima(4 door), 01 miata automatic, and my 97 turbo. Here's my list of reasons why I should keep them:

The price of both of my miatas don't even add up to the price that was paid on her car

Both my insurances don't even add up to the price of hers

The 01 has the airbag turned off for the little one

The last thing I need is a car note

Now if I were to get a new car, I would get an 02-03 wrx wagon. Finding a low mileage, straight, unmodified(or barely), stick, at a reputable stealership and all for a decent price seems to be almost impossible at this point. I really just don't want a car note. Also, selling these cars are going to take forever. The 97 is modified out the *** and is based upon my tastes. The 01 needs some work(which I'm working on right now); tires are bald and a/c needs a recharge. Honestly, I'm pretty happy rocking 2 miatas and I seriously think I found my "thing." I can be so frustrated and stressed from life and take one ride with the top down and it's all good again. Now, in no way am I saying that my likings take priority over this new "bundle of joy," I'm just saying I have yet to see a lagit reason to get rid of them. Now if I were to get a different vehicle, it would have to meet certain criteria:

Not be too old(preferably 2000+)
Has at least a back seat or 4 door
Be sporty in some way(ie turbo, v8, etc.)
Under 12k
Under 75k miles
Not too expense insurance
Not an srt4
Get good mpg(I do about 80miles commuting daily)

Thoughts?

If you guys already have a 4 door car aside from the miata's I dont see what the problem is.
That said, miata's are ridiculously unpractical IMHO. If we didnt have another dd as well as my wife's car I would not be able to keep my miata.

I dont know about your area, but around here you could easily find an 02-05 wrx clean title non-modded and overall great condition with 50-70k miles for under 12. I love my wrx.

Congrats...maybe? I'm kinda in a similar situation...just not in the same time frame. My next car purchase I am trying to keep baby friendly without giving up everything even though I'm not expecting a bambino for a while...I would say ditch the 01', keep the turbo'd one and get a decent daily. DEFINITLY dont get rid of both!! I'm the same way as you...I can be having a **** *** day and 5 minutes blasting around with the top down clears up my day. Anyways, Heres some rides that meet ur criteria I think for the most part.

Ditch the awfulmatic '01, no reason to keep it. You have a car (the Altima) for the kid to ride in and your fun car. Same scenario I have, but you're just starting out.

What's this about disconnecting the airbag in the '01 "for the little one"? He/she won't be riding in any Miata (legally or safely) for a long while.

+1 Ditch The Automatic...

+2 go for another sedan... Like listed above area lot of fun cars, but some might be higher prices than necessary... I have a Volvo s70 T-5 in the driveway... Car is fun. SUPER comfortable. Safe as a brick on the highway, and parts are simple, and rather easy to fix.

Two miatas are a little too much, Practicality is what you will need.. or go for a Truck... trucks are always useful.

Your not going to get much for you 97 unless you part it out. Keep it. Sell the 01. Get a WRX wagon. You'll probably wind up selling the altima. The amount of **** you wind up carrying with kids is stupid. It's like mounting a Lewis and Clark expedition just to go to the park. Plus my boys love riding in the "fast car" miata.

Sell the 01 and keep the other as a daily. Don't bother buying another car, just put the money into a savings account and save it for something important.

If I got a wrx, that would most likely mean car note so by default I would have to sell the 97. Honestly, if I could trade the 01 on the wrx....have a car note of around 7-8 grand....get like 5 for the miata and drop that on the note, that would be perfect.

If you're in money saving mode, don't get a f'ing wrx, whats wrong with you? bad gas mileage, they're a great deal for a fast car, but that doesn't mean they're cheap, high insurance, and you're at a much higher risk in it to get tickets. I went though all these things when I was first buying my new car. And as much as I wanted a RWD or AWD sporty car to replace my miata as a DD, Subaru's were fairly expensive and had crap gas mileage. As much as I hated it, they were eliminated from my choices fairly early on.

I'd sell the '01 and use a little of the profit to make the turbo'd '97 a little more daily drivable, that's me though. Maybe MSPNP?

Welp, just got a quote from my insurance company for full coverage. It would be 105 a month for an 03 wrx...not too bad at all. That's about how much I'm paying inbetween the two miatas for base on both.

Having a baby should be the #1 reason to keep a miata in the family - you can hop in it and go blow off some steam/find your zen when you need a bit of fresh air.

+1 assuming your turbo car is reliable and can be a DD. Don't want the thing breaking down with little one in the car. With that said when my daughter was born I kept the Miata and it worked out fine. That was 18 years ago.

I would start multiplying said bank account by 10000x and stop worrying about cars.

sell the 01....buy a older civic for 2-3, its good on gas to dd and reliable. and on the weekends or when you wanna have fun take the 97 turbo
you dont need a fast or fun car to go to work or anything. so grow some *****, you got your girl pregnant so deal with now.
and with the money you have left over from your 01 save it and take care of your child
