Default Exhaust noise is driving me crazy...

Got an 01 with a vfr supercharger on it. The exhaust on it appears to be the stock exhaust up to the cat. After that there is a resonator welded in, then borla dual exhaust. The cars a bit loud which I can live with. But at higher rpm, 4k+ there is a rattling noise.

I have looked around the exhaust and cant find anything loose or badly fitted. Its a very fast rattling noise so I dont think its metal hitting metal. I read somewhere else that getting rid of the cat will help reduce this rattling (no inspections here).

Ideas?

Have someone else drive it while you're in the passenger seat. Move around and see if you can figure out exactly where the noise is coming from. With the top down, something making noise in the front can sound like it's coming from the back, so it helps to be able to move around and find the source.

Mine was rattling around, a coat hanger later solved such a problem.

Depending on what you have under there it could just be a heat shield that is coming loose, or the exhaust could be hitting somewhere.

Just jack the car up, crawl under it, and figure it out. Cant be all that hard.

Just remove it all and run open header. Problem solved.

stupid advice.

as for your question OP, the others are right: move the exhaust with your hand from the rear. the rubber bushings allow for enough movement for you to be able to tell if its hitting anything.

next check heat shield bolts/etc.

if all else fails get rid of that POS and go TURBO

Mine rattles from 3500-4000 but that's because the welds have broken on both sides of the resonator.
