I'm picturing a DD MX-5 Cup Car. Or maybe a garage-mahal full of Miatas. With Curly as caretaker. We can change his name to Igor and give it a goth vibe.

I don't think "weaseled" is the appropriate term. I found myself suddenly with kids, and without a 2 seater. Curly found himself with a pair 2 seaters, and a kid on the way, and a need to unload one 2 seater and convert it into something with back doors. Re-balancing was only logical. This is how his fine upstanding BMW sedan happened.

Two kids and my current real estate means no garage mahal. Next major vehicle purchase will be a vehicle for Ms Mobius. After that, maybe looking at getting an RV (that can tow a trailer), or replacing the Odyssey with a truck that can tow. ND Cup car is a decade out at the minimum. But at that point I'd probably go for an ND daily, and strip and cage the NB. Who knows.

Sounds like a real estate reshuffle is in order.

Buy the house I'm renting. I'll work on Miatas in exchange for rent.

She thinks she wants an Outback. This is moving from our 2000 Forester which we had since new. My 12yo has size 11 feet, and will probably be 6 feet tall before his 14th birthday. A larger back seat than the Forester is in order.

Get her an ND, swap the Odyssey for a truck that can tow and can go to the mountain -possibilities. The setup we had before worked well - there was the fun car, the Odyssey for hauling family and vacations, and the Forester for her commute, some vacations, and for going to the mountain. We also used the Forester when all four of us would do something in town, it's nice to have a smaller car to park. The Odyssey is fine but takes some navigating in some of the garages. A fullsize pickup would have trouble parking often.

But she may decide she wants an electric vehicle. Her commute is only 5 miles one way so battery range isn't an issue.

When we get back we'll have the NB and the Odyssey until she decides on a vehicle, so she'll be taking the NB to work. We'll see what she thinks of driving a two seater.

She's had a range of vehicles. She drove a 66 Vette to high school, a station wagon through college, then she had a stick 4wd Chevy pickup for a long time. I have no idea really what she'll decide on.

If you want to come test drive stuff or whatever when you guys get back, let me know. I has the hookups.

I have my Turbo NA, I also had a 99 a few months back (while waiting for the ND) and have tons of miles on the NC (2.3 Swap, Tomei Cams and lots of goodies) but this car is so refreshing. Really, the way you can take liberties with it makes it feel like a 2016 NA6, and despite being slow for American Standards (0-62 7.6 and 128 mph ) the way the engine goes to 7500 puts a smile on my face !

Serious question for those who have put some miles on an ND:


I'm 6'2" tall. So I'm accustomed to sitting on a Miata, rather than in it. When the top is down, I tend to look above the top of the windshield frame at stoplights, and my hair generally rubs the top when it's up. I find this to be a comfortable driving position, despite the obvious risk of gory death should I ever flip the car.


The first time I sat in an NC, I was immediately struck by how tall the car felt around me. The door sill, upon which I customarily rest my arm, felt far too tall, and it seemed like the dashboard also rose up much higher than I was accustomed to. I suspect this is how short people feel all the time, but I didn't like it. I haven't sat in an NC since. It was like sitting in a bathtub.

How does the ND measure up in this regard? I hear a lot of people referring to it as a 2016 NA, but does it measure up (or, rather, down) in terms of driver ergonomics?

I am not tall by any means, i´m about 1,73m and I sit in the ND just about like in the NA or NB. I always noticed that the NC was a bigger and as you say the shoulder line is way higher that what was found on the NA and NB.

The ND is a little bit taller than NA and NB but definitely not as high as the NC.

Yes it is. The center console is bigger than the one in the NA/NB and about the same size as the NC I think so.

The only area that is very, very tight in the ND is the passenger side.

Go test drive one.

No Mazda dealerships in Manhattan, and no plans to buy a car in the near term, just thinking about the future.

Be prepared to buy if you do, they're that awesome.

I'm not even remotely in the market for one and just seeing/feeling one I was having dirty thoughts about purchasing :giggle:

Took a new Club out the other day.

Not ready to give up the AP2 and spend twice its value on an ND, but the drive of that little car was simply stunning. If it fits your lifestyle as a daily driver it's excellent.

Just wish it had more revs. 6500 and a soft limiter is simply not enough IMO.
