Not ready to give up the AP2 and spend twice its value on an ND, but the drive of that little car was simply stunning. If it fits your lifestyle as a daily driver it's excellent.

Just wish it had more revs. 6500 and a soft limiter is simply not enough IMO.

Easily fixed with a reflash. Openflash has a nice header for a measly $499.

What's that give, 7000 rpm? Even 7k rpm would be a huge improvement to the driving experience IMO.

That being said, the low end torque is so strong, it really doesn't need it. Just for me personally the car doesn't get that frenetic energy that I find so entertaining in the AP2.

But suspension, brakes, shifter, steering... All feel better in the ND to me.

Depends on the tune and hardware. I have mine set at 7100 with GCC header, one cat deleted and 2.5" exhaust.

Eventually we will get a long block built with ported head and see whats possible.

^that sounds perfect.

Hmmm.... I qualify for EPlan, that's about $3000 off MSRP after owner loyalty....

Hey Emilio: any update on the progress of the hardtop?

We won't provide updates for this project, sorry. No ETA either I'm afraid. Too many folks want a peak at it ahead of release. It will just drop.

Alright, cool. As long as it isn't next month, my credit card can recover in time.

Yeah, I don't get it. I expected to scroll down after that and read a statement about how they aren't going to be continuing with their intake design. Instead they somehow have a positive spin?

OVT is who gets me. Lets build a turbo setup for a Mazda3/6 2.0 motor and post about it in the ND section. Besides the tuning be similar I don't see using the same manifold or downpipe.

It's clear to me why their intake isn't making power. Surprised they didn't look at that aspect. We'll either bring our own to market or publish the recipe, depending on how viable ours is for production and retail sale.

Would you say, Corksport is doing the same?

The Mishimoto intake has the filter crammed almost all the way up to the snorkel opening - they are basically blocking the intake air. They also make no effort to transition the airflow into the filter with a bell mouth, its just a hard 90 degree corner. The corksport is marginally better with some room in front of the top of the filter and a radius to distribute the air towards the filter. Both of the airboxes are undersized for the cone filter. If the box can't be bigger they might get better flow with a smaller filter. Also, a filter with more taper angle.

Well you see, the Mazda3 and 6 have a fancy 4-2-1 header that doesn't fit in the ND, and...

Oh.

Yup. I'll reserve further comments until we have dyno plots to publish.

ThePass 02-19-2016 01:59 PM

Surprisingly, I expect that both of those intakes will still sell. Too many people with the "knowledge" ingrained in them that an intake is one of the first things you do to a car to increase performance, and the bling factory plus induction noise will be enough for many.

Mishimoto sent us their prototype for dyno testing end of last year. We cautioned them not to expect much.. Dyno showed no gains with it so we broke the bad news to them and let them do with that info what they wanted. Their product announcement may lay the marketing hype on a little thick, but I'm pleased to see that they are being transparent about the power output being largely unaffected.

First ND aftermarket hardtop. I really hope the basic proportions on this one are not a requirement of the trunk/top dimensions and that other tops will look different:

Lines are generally not bad, but the peak is located about a foot too far forward.

Ziggo 02-28-2016 10:25 PM

Saw a couple of stock 2016s tearing it up in auto-x today. They are all over the place but they had a some good drivers that were getting the car to transition nice and early so the car was set for the turns. Looked like they were just flopping from bump stop to bump stop through the slalom, but the timer doesn't lie, they were quick.

Girz0r 02-29-2016 08:41 AM

I've only seen a few NDs driving around, a white & red. Both were women drivers :likecat: the white car driver was exceptionally hawt :bigtu:

That hardtop doesn't looked bad, not a fan of the rear window fitment :dunno:
