Are those numbers in comparison to an NA or NC? I don't fit at all in an NC, but an NA with a foamectomy is drivable, if not ideal.

If I purchased one it probably wouldn't see track duty for some time, that's what the beat up 1993 with 5k worth of parts from your website is for. I really enjoy the 1993, but it would be nice to have similar performance from a car with power steering, air conditioning etc...

NA. I don't fit in the NC either.

Uh oh, they found Emilio's post.

150k?!? Lemme think of some other cars. Does that include an SSM NB?
Leafy alt spotted.

Wut? Lol. I'm not going to lie if my new job salary was something that started with a 9 I'd probably be writing a letter to the SEB to get this car classed in an SP class and if it was the right one, consider cutting one up for 315s with less than 100k on it.

Hey Emilio, what do you think of the Mazdaspeed branded parts that are available as a dealer installed (or orderable through Mazdaspeed once the e-fiche is loaded)?

I like the pink color.

Wouldn't they be mostly for NVH? Surely the ND chassis is stiffer than the preceding generations and it's on pretty soft springs for it's weight. The chassis flex to spring rate ratio ought to be way past what is important for mechanical grip.

What is important for mechanical grip, sure. What is important for the most rigid platform possible? Not necessarily.

I mean, those are pretty complex braces, and likely not incredibly light either. By not putting them on the standard cars whose handling will be squandered on wine-and-cheesers anyway, they save the weight and expense. By making it available in the sortof-aftermarket (at a considerable profit-generating markup, no doubt) those who want it will buy it.

Car is light and rigid, but properly engineered bracing would surely make it more rigid.

Not really m.net stuff, but I like it. Interesting that the cup car is being developed in the US. Probably cheaper to do here than anyplace else.

I wonder how much that Cup car will cost? That and running a full season with it...

hornetball 06-17-2015 10:44 PM

Less than a Porsche?

Actually, pretty sure I've seen some target prices somewhere. Need to look around. I'll bet Emilio knows.

Edit: Saw one published source give a $75K estimate. So, less than a Porsche.

Emilio, could someone build a similar NA with say 10k in off the shelf parts?

ThePass 06-18-2015 12:37 AM

Similar on paper, faster in lap times, never the same in real life feel/experience.

Not even close. The data system alone on the cup cars will be $10k. The Cup cars will likely be PTC fast, that's $50-70k if you're starting with an NA.

ThePass 06-18-2015 02:39 AM

^ I read the question as referring to the ND street car. $15k NA compared to $25k ND off the lot.

But if comparing to the new Cup Car, no chance.

I got excited at the start of that ECU video and then it immediately turned to disappointment when I realized their goals are to lock it down further :(

Me too. Alas, the goal ended up being to cut down on protests. Pretty understandable for a spec racing series.
