A New 99' for you guys

PS also better exhaust and with the stock motor I wouldn't go any bigger then 2.5", which is what I have on the 02 and have no trouble keeping the boost under 12 psi. I went with 3" on the 99 and had to put a necked down insert in the muffler tip to keep the psi down, I have since built another short block with 9 to 1 compression and beefier rods so I can run more psi as necking down the 3" exhaust seemed counter productive to me.

99 motor is 9.5:1 compression, 01-05 VVT is 10:1...which is what I have (as well as you do on your 02 SE)...stock engine and 15psi on a FMII kit. With a good tune, being over 10psi is just fine. I have been running ~13psi on my old engine for a few years and when I pulled the engine, the pistons and rods were fine and no signs of detonation (ok, one rod had about 3* of bend on one axis which I suspect came from a serious over-rev, but it wasn't the reason for the failure....which I have never determined to this day). I was really surprised at the condition of the engine after 80k+ of boost "at the limit" for a stock engine. My perception is that 15psi is safe with a great tune.
Ugh..I really want to have my *ish retuned for 16-17psi..and VVT.

Compensating for an inadequate wastegate by running a less efficient exhaust seems pretty backwards to me. And I'm a bit surprised that with the premium price they charge that they haven't engineered a better solution. A larger wastegate would be optimal, but using a larger turbine housing A/R or different turbine trim might mediate the problem a bit. I would expect them to fix that, but it's not my money.

Its just my opinion but 15 psi on stock rods is more then I care to try to run at a steady rate on several track days a year, the pistons should be fine with a good tune as you say but tune doesn't have much to do with a bent rod in my opinion, as the amount of psi the rod has to push against from all the research I've done. I doubt that an over rev bent a rod in a no interference motor. Just my 2cents.
Sixshooter I agree with the wastegate situation, but I was just telling the op what I found when adding a 3" exhaust. A friend of mine Bob Bundy said he had a hard time keeping below 14 psi with 3" exhaust and he has modified his waste gate valve everywhich way as his whole setup is DIY and he is pretty smart at this stuff. Hopefully now it won't be an issue for me. Thanks again John

This is all pretty informative, Do you think maybe a better aftermarket w/g would do the trick?
Which I'm sure everyones thought of it. I'm just being a noob :P
Plus I keep hearing people say build out a motor with VVT, how exactly would one do that with a 99?

As Dopplerganger stated a VVT engine which is 01 and newer is 10:1 compression, to run in my opinion over 10 or 11 psi continualy at the track [ different story street use] you need to build the motor and that generaly means beefed up rod and forged pistons so you can up the psi and hp. You can do the same with the 99 which is what I have done on my 99 so now I hope to run 16 or so psi. It all depends on what you goals AND use of the motor well be. Some run on the upper limits and I kinda like running with some margin left. JMHO. My 02 with the 2.5" exhaust is a plenty fast street car and kicks the *** of most.

I know forums are used to having people with a complete loss of knowlage and common sense.
Rest assured though, I have looked and read and compared them both. But couldn't figure out which would be more beneficial over bang for the buck.
I shall not ask a simple question again about comparing two turbo systems to a turbo oriented group again. My bad, but I will not take that bullshit from anyone.
_______________
I now clarified my initial question:
"Between the two FM II Hydra systems and wanting the following specs:
Inconel studs, stage 8 hardware, full ceramic coating, hard oil/water lines, full 3" exhaust.
Which would be the better choice. I have asked FM themselves this question but they have yet to reply with my quote on the parts listing.
I wasn't sure if I was missing something because they do all have pretty much the same generic parts. Just external WG, and 1000cc injectors seem to be the differences. I'm just glancing over them tho."
That's a good answer tho, haha.

Well I've been away doing secret squirrel stuffs
Here's a little update for you all:
Got my RPF1's 16x8, got my coilovers, waiting on sways
Mine is obviously the black one, My friends is the red.
Was taken after we went cruising a bit.
Still adjusting the coilovers in to where I like them, I have an autox set up for May 12th here locally.
Sometime during the day I'll have to take some pictures of just the car.
Please let me know what you think.
Plans so far are waiting to turbo, I'm still being torn in between FM hydra set or go with MS. Eventually plans for full built engine and MOAR boost. So I'm keeping that in mind

I hit some sort of fuel cut or something. I believe I have the stock 265cc injectors. so it wouldn't surprise me at all.
A buddy has some new 440cc RC's though I may get. Then look for a Walboro 255 and a FPR so I can run a return style fuel setup and not worry about running out of fuel.
Sounds legit right?
I'm trying NOT to blow a motor up again.
