Default New top and roll bar install today

Picked up a new top (on frame) and a hard dog roll bar and to day was the day to to the install. Went much better than I was expecting.

Pulled the old top off, yanked the carpeting and plates on the deck. Cut the holes for the roll bar, body saw made easy work on that...love that thing. Bolted up the bar, everything lined up perfectly.

Went to install the top and the hinge mounts went in with out and issue but the rain rail and the metal brackets were a handfull now that the roll bar was in the way. But after some cursing and a few more beers it all came together.

The new top looks great and I'm not going to miss the sound of the old one flapping the torn parts in the wind at highway speeds.

I'll get some pics up soon. Total time 4 hours.

Question, any ideas on how to make the seat belts function any better, they seem to be all stuck up behind the bar. I'll deal if I have to but looking to see if anyone else solved this.

Sounds like a hard dog... by buddy had the same issue and we couldn't resolve it. the seat belts never worked right again until he pulled the bar so the hardtop would fit.

bossfrog makes an adapter for the seatbelt problem, I've read mixed reviews.

I have those....in a plastic bag in my trunk....one day. However, I don't believe they will solve the issue.

Hard Dog suggest doing something with the reel to help out.... http://www.bethania-garage.com/reel_guide_install.htm

Does any one have a picture of the rollbar, outside the car preferably.

Are you serious Sam?

I'd understand asking for a specific picture, like side profile to the latches or some **** like that, but nearly every miata with a rollbar has a harddog?

I have the boss frog double hoop. The problem with mine is they are located too far back and inward. When I put them on it doesn't pull flat across the mount, it pulls on the corner.

I did that when I installed my bar. It helped, but every so often it will get caught in the corner and I'll have to feed it back in by hand.

I just want to see how the bar mounts into the car. Does it look similar to the deuce bar or does it have bars that go down behind the seats?

Here, from the documentation I did on my install.

You have to cut some of the metal away (not done yet):

You can tell where the metal has to be cut now:

And while you're at it, if you have a boot, get brave and cut the sucker to fit around your rollbar:
