well im a bit proactive and took a trip to the shop before the insurance guys called me.

total cost for parts and labor - 7k (i guess he stopped there, did not count frame work) 92%

total cost of labor 2893.60

total cost of parts 3894

561 additional costs

most expensive parts

327 front bumper
319 bumper reinforcement
442 - each headlight!
773.75 hood
316.74 fender panel

more pics of the accident

also that bend is all of the damage to the unibody. Shop wants to cut that frame rail out, and weld on a new one. they arent allowed to pull it due to progressive insurance rules. they also will not allow me to use non oem parts, even if insurance cuts me a check and i pay for it myself.

ill most likely have to find a new body shop if i decide to do the repairs

if i decide to do it, and they cut me a decent check.

another thing

the car has 130k miles however i had the engine replaced with another one with 90k about 5k miles ago, as well as shop fee's and clutch. Im assuming I can use that to bargain

Nope. Let them total it, negotiate a high payout, buy it back, sell it to Mr. Excited pants for a bit of a profit.

I had thought the question was how the insurance company would see it, not whether or not it could be repaired. Two entirely different questions.

I'm just screwing with him. Yeah it's worth fixing unless you want to deal with a part out.

Some body shops are quirky about bringing your own parts, as they tend to make money marking them up to sell of course, but here are the mazdaspeed prices on the parts if you know someone with an account there that could order them. It simply requires you to do 2 timed events (autocrosses etc.) per year. + Cost to paint them of course, and to fix frame damage.

Disclaimer: I think I got all the part numbers right, but I am not liable if they aren't. lol

Mazdapseed as in Mazda's Motorsport group, not the car.

I had a ZR2 S10 pickup that got backed into by a tow truck. KBB was $8k. Cost to fix came up just over the totalled amount. Me and the adjuster started talking about how the paint was in bad condition, and a few other problems, and got the cost to fix to just under the totalled amount. I sold the truck with a clean title for $750, the engine I bought to replace the blown engine I bought it with for $1200, and cashed the $4000 insurance check. And bought a Miata.

Depends on whether you have a substantial amount of fabrication that would need to be replicated, or whether the car has sentimental value for you. If you've just done bolt-ons that can be removed before they take the car away, I would let your insurance company buy you one that hasn't been involved in a substantial front end collision.

If you decide not to keep the car yourself...

I repeat:

Let the insurance company give you a value. Push for a higher value. Accept it, then ask for buyback value.

Buy it back. Sell it to me for more.

DONE. You get to go buy a different one, and you make even more money from it cuz I'll pay you a profit to get the car.

Sincerely,

The ***
