What engine oil do YOU use?

+1 for mobil 1. it's not stupid expensive and i probably just unknowingly passed 5 places that carry it on my way home.
if i had the time to change my oil more often i'd probably use dino oil. if my car was turbo that would be a different story, but that's not going to happen any time soon.

Results under the valve cover of my Toyota pickup after 238,000 miles on Rotella/Rotella Synthetic. I took pics because it looked so good. -Except for the dirty oil that was overdue for changing.
Oils developed for the heavy diesel engines have more of the additives that trap carbon and other garbage particles because diesels burn dirtier. Then the particles end up filtered out of the oil stream better and don't end up stuck on all of the interior surfaces of your engine. Nice and clean.
I was changing the timing belt and was curious, so I pulled the VC off. This is the first time this engine has been opened up for any reason. Only problem ever was damn starter went out at 217,500 miles.

Mmmmmm. Nutella is best when on top of a delectable brownie or cookie...
Oh yeah, oils....
Rotella and Delo400 are both regarded as great oils in the diesel crowd. Just checked and it looks like I may be able to get Rotella for a little less than Delo400, so I might give that a try. It's so convenient to drive to costco and pick up a huge cage of Delo though (6 gallons per case IIRC).

I've heard from the Redline engineer that the Redline base stocks are identical to Motul, but of course half the price. Yes, I make it rain.
If the price is right I'll buy some...then buy in bulk after a year of UOA's.
I'm going to try this high end oil thing after my first track day and 3000 miles. If its not cost effective, I'm going to switch to straight 40w Rotella. I know of some people who race turbo miatas who run motors that for whatever reason prefer dino oil.
gay internet snake-oil story:
I put GTX in my shitbox daily (because its a cheap shitbox that I don't love) and drove to Tulsa. After 100 miles the lifter clatter was so loud that I had to pull over and pour a quart in, then I stopped and bought 3-quarts of rotella. Yes, it was that low. After that, it didn't burn a drop or make any valve noise on the rest of the drive up, back, or since.
Well I'm a little bias because i'm an Amsoil dealer, but i use to run Redline until i found Amsoil and now that's all I run. I may be able to give discounts to members interested if there is enough people that would run it. PM me if you are interested and ill see what we can work out.

some of those cam lobes look hazy. Maybe next time you should run 30-50 miles with 2 cap-fuls of ATF in the oil to clean up that stuff. Rotella is the superior lubricating dino oil, with fewer gasoline engine detergents. A cap of ATF does wonders for cleaning out sludge.

i tried both rotella and Delvac on my 18 wheeler and saw best results with valvoline diesel oil. The other two just seam to loose its viscosity too soon i can tell that on my oil pressure gauge. Valvoline keep the best oil pressure on a Cummins N14 for me. but i never thought about putting that oil in my mazda?? don't know why but next oil change i might have to get 11 gallons instead of 10 for the oil change.
