Anything about diesel oils that make them not suitable for gasoline engines? Ive heard of alot of people running Rotella and Delo with great results like here. Maybe I will try it out next time. I like Mobil1, but I never seem to stick with a brand very long.

heavy duty engine oil (diesel oil(rotella)) is not suitable for gasoline engines...according to the EPA Study up on Rotella on BITOG.com and you will leave overpriced, GIII oils behind.

Just to clarify, Rotella T fully synthetic comes only in 5W40, not in 5W50. The only multigrade non-synthetic is 15W40. I have run both and all that the fully synthetic gives, in purely subjective terms, is an extended change interval. In colder weather there might be some HLA noise with the 15w40 but that's about it.

ever have the car on a roadcourse? There's a powerful lust for the straight 40w rotella dino in the motorsports community, but I've never seen a UOA from a turbo car to back it up. I'm also concerned about foaming from sustaining 4-7k rpm for 30-minute sessions. This makes me want to jump on the "super-ester" bandwagon (Redline).

Foaming? Why would it foam?

Too cheap to pay for it. I mean the oil is under 12bucks for 4quarts.... I'm obviously looking for bang for the buck.
OH!!! Random... but I also run a K&N Gold filter... not miata specific... but Honda civic specific. I had a bunch from my honda days... It just fits... and i swear I saw higher oil pressure. Could just have been fresh oil though... so who knows.
I'd be happy to run a few tests if you pay for them I had done a few blacksomething something tests years ago on my b18c.
