Got some more DIY stuff in the works. My shorty console didnt quite come out like I had hoped, thanks to my rushed paint prep, I may or may not go back to fix it and use it. I kind of like the idea of the exposed rubber upper boot surrounded by:

Going to drape the trans tunnel with diamond stitched vinyl. Got to figure out a way to cut it and make it fit around the hole left in the lower edge of the console (since there is no longer a lower section middle console). Maybe I wont make a wrong cut. Will do it this weekend, along with my roll bar pad covers. Wish my damn WB wheel hub wasnt on back order, I want to install my Nardi wheel.

Got the vinyl in and roll bar pads and covers on. Still need to eventually take it back out and have the edges sewn up to make it look cleaner. I also need to find something to fit around the shifter boot since I cut it a bit large, perhaps a 5'' speaker grill with the inside cut out (since the hole is 4 3/4''), along with the e-brake boot. The whole thing shifted back about 1'' when I installed the side seat rails that bolt to the trans tunnel. Got pinched and pulled along with them as I hammered them behind the roll bar. Alot of little details left, I will try to finish them tomarrow. I also got my Nardi wheel, but still waiting on my damn WB hub on back order. Looks decent enough for a $40 diy job that only took me 2 hours, since I kind of rushed it in a few places (my style I guess), also take into account that camera flash makes everything look like ****, color wise and dirty wise. Need to cut out a square to go around the trunk and fuel levers, between the roll bar uprights, and something to do with the hole under the console. I also want to kick my own *** for putting an extra inch of padding in the driver seat, looks retarded being all bubbled up. Make all of the gathered leather flatten out... oh well.

I really need to put this **** on hold though, and take care of my turbo build. I keep seeing little things like this and doing them instead of saving for the turbo.

Why not just put the rubber shifter boot on top of the material.
Also, check out the eBay short shifters, mine works great, and looks loads better than yours. Or at least polish yours, besides labor, its free.

I do plan on polishing it tomarrow. I dont want the entire boot on top though, because I like the round look of the boot sticking through. Still a long way to go to make it look like I want. Its all in the details, which sadly I dont seem to be so good at.

Piece of aluminum with a hole in it for the shifter boot, bolted to the same screws that hold the boot down? The hard part would be getting that hole the right size without marring up the pretty aluminum.

or just a ring, not sure how you would bolt it down though.

I decided I dont like it. I will run it till I find another stock console (since mine is in pieces). I also think Im ditching my freshly recovered Katzkin leather seats for some racing seats. I think I want this car to go more towards track/daily, than full daily duty. I will find another car for the daily driving duty. Im not happy with some of my DIY stuff, and would like it to either go back to near stock, or stripped for the track, while staying comfortable enough to drive on the street a few times a week.

When you get ready to ditch those seat covers let me know and I'll send you my shipping address.

Full seats? Or just the covers? I dont guess its too much trouble to remove the covers, but Id like to sell the entire seats if possible.

I think my favorite DIY project so far has been my gauges. I hated the off-white 01+ gauges. So I took an old set of 99-00 faces, sanded the nasty green tint off and put two layers of blue painters tape on the back and re-installed the gauges. So no it looks like a regular 99-00 cluster during the day... and at night you get this..

If you're going track only, the center console thing might be a good thing to keep once you rip out the carpet. the tranny tunnel gets really hot.
