Default won't crank hot

Shut engine off "hot". After 5 minutes turned key and got a click. Two more tries, click. Next two tries silence. Anyone? I have seen this discussed in the past but couldn't locate searching. Thanks (cooled 5 minutes, started right up)edit

starter is probably givin up the ghost. tap it with a hammer a few times and see if it comes back to life.

or replace it
