Plug and Play Toyota Coil-On-Plug Setup - $200 Shipped before May 17th

teaser thread here

I will be offering a Plug and Play Toyota COP (Coil-On-Plug) setup for the 1990-2000 Miata. I am ready to accept orders for the 90-93 1.6 setups; 1.8 guys, wait about a week for me to build a harness and test it before I start taking orders for those. 96-00 will be after that, probably 2-4 weeks down the line.

Question: What the hell is this product?
Answer: The stock ignition system sucks for boost, so a bunch of people have switched over to a Toyota ignition system. There are a few writeups which will explain it more in detail:

The original COP Thread
Braineack's writeup
SamNavy's writeup

Question: What are the benefits?
Answer: If you're stock? Pretty much nothing, except never having to buy plug wires again. If you're turboed? A bunch of stuff. Many users have reported smoother idle, smoother running, more plug gap (.040 or larger) at high boost (17psi+), all very good stuff.

Question: What does this include? Do I have to solder/wire anything in?
Answer: For the 1.6 guys, no. This includes a pre-wired and gutted ignitor, which means you literally unplug the stock ignitor, plug in the new gutted ignitor, route the wiring harness, bolt the COPs down to the valve cover (a mounting bracket and hardware is included, obviously), attach one ground, and turn the key. No soldering or wiring is required at all.

For the 1.8 guys, I am 99% sure it will be pretty much the same. Nothing is set in stone for the 1.8 yet, so I will mumble more about it when I know more later.

Question: How much does it cost, and when can I pay you?
Answer: $200 shipped before May 17th, $250 shipped after that, in the US.
50% deposit puts your name on the list, which means I start to build your harness and search for your coils. The other 50% is due when your setup is complete, tested, and ready to ship. You can pay all at once as well, doesn't matter to me. My paypal address is: sav -at- jaykidd -dot- com. Please include your forum name in the comments box, as well as what year you have and what ECU/mods you have on your car.

Question: How long will it take?
Answer: I want to underpromise and overdeliver, so I am going to say 4 weeks from deposit to completion. I will keep each individual person updated on the status of their harness, so you'll get a more accurate ETA later on.

Question: I already bought coils, but I would rather have you do the wiring and mounting bracket. Is there any discount available?
Answer: Sure. $80 off. I'd like you to send me your coils so I can test the setup (I plan to test every setup I make before selling it), but if you'd rather save the shipping costs that's fine too. I will test your setup on another set of coils before I send it out.

Any more questions? PM me.

For all the interest I got, not a lot of orders. If you wouldn't pay $250 for these, what would you pay?

slutz4 05-03-2008 09:45 AM

Im interested, Im just bidding on something on ebay, if I dont win it, Ill get these :).

disturbedfan121 05-03-2008 10:18 PM

well how much would it really cost you. i mean obviously you need the money for materials. You want 170$ to wire it together and make the mounting panel.....in materials that can't cost you much more than 50$ per "kit" (that sounds like being generous to me for wire and a piece of aluminum) so thats 120 in your pocket per kit, I mean i'm not complaining i'm semi willing to pay the 250, but you gotta see what you can do it for, bottom dollar in your pocket..........not trying to be a dick just stating cause you asked

No offense taken. It's more than just wire and aluminum, keep in mind; I'm using OEM Toyota connectors to keep the number of soldered connections down, and the ignitors aren't inconsequential, either. Thanks for your opinion.

How about this: Order it before Saturday, May 17th, and I will do it for $200 shipped.

levnubhin 05-03-2008 11:18 PM

Im in at that price! Just paypal you? 50% now and 50% when done?

Just paypal me. Include your forum name so I can keep everything straight. Half now so I know you're serious (I don't want to be wasting time and money building harnesses and searching for coils only to have someone back out), half when I am done.

levnubhin 05-03-2008 11:26 PM

50% sent.

I will check funds this week and get back to you. I was thinking about going to COPs, but first I need a manifold and finish my turbo.

Hopefully I can be a part of this.

coils -80
ignitor -20
bracket -20

$80 for wiring, connectors, and the 10,000MFD capacitor.

(oh, by the way, all of these harnesses will have that cap.)

paul 05-04-2008 09:15 AM

Bryan, you're a moron.

I think the $200 price is fair for the whole shebang.

Put me down for a wiring harness for a 94 with the cap. I'll make my own bracket and have the cops already.

airbrush1 05-04-2008 11:27 AM

so when should us NB owners (99-00) shoot you a deposit? I hate wiring, and 200 seems fair

paul 05-04-2008 11:30 AM

Sav, are you gonna have connectors on the "other"end to connect directly to the factory harness in a 94?

kotomile 05-04-2008 01:39 PM

paid in full, Sav. Thanks!

m2cupcar 05-04-2008 03:29 PM

Yeah - $200 for the harness/loom and coil packs is a deal! :bigtu: for a pNp solution

For example an alternative setup using the MSD DIS2 would cost ~$200 for the used MSD, then you still have do the wiring, located the box and you're stuck with plug wires.

turbobluemiata 05-04-2008 06:16 PM

paypal sent thanks for your service! saves me alot of frustration

richard_ha 05-04-2008 07:09 PM

Will this wire in OK for those of us using MsPNPs?
