The other team used the entire length for some reason. They did not shorten them at all, so the carb was a mile away from the turbo, and a couple miles away from the manifold.
That created massive lag.
They also did not bother themselves with making a manifold or proper adapter to connect the turbo.
Just welded a straight pipe to the exhaust piping going down after they chopped them at an angle.
Exhaust gases had to make a very abrupt 135 degree turn to go up to spin the turbo.
They also just enlarged the jets (main and secondary) in the carb. That meant the engine ran pig rich at all times and was practically flooded going into boost.
All of that meant they were unable to manipulate the gas pedal, and had to go full throttle to get the car going.
They spun their tires wildly, car was all over the place, but we managed to keep it framed nicely in our rear view mirror.

We did not golf. It is open to the public to walk about on Sunday. We did get a pic of my son on the famous bridge :
