ComEd has decided to give us not one but two complimentary tests of our generator and transfer switch in the past two days. The most recent was at 2:30 this morning, which means I'm tired as ***** right now.

That's about 1/3 of rated capacity. Now that we're all solid-state displays and LED lamps, this genny is just laughing at me like "Is that all you got?"

The switch itself is kind of impressive to look it. It makes a very exciting sound when you turn the key labeled "RESET."

That's kind of cute Joe.

They gave me a new computer at work. Well, technically a thinclient... My workload is a little too heavy for this little guy.

It doesn't reset itself when good power comes back?

Sounds like your test was more successful that Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

It can, but we keep it set for manual re-transfer as there's always a glitch when it switches, and we like to be able to control when that happens, so it doesn't occur while we're on live from studios 1-3.

Found this in the building yesterday. It only scares me a little bit.

That's like the electrical version of that spider I posted. Only more deadly.

Meh, they got the hot stuff taped up. Super33+, good for 600v. I'm sure OSHA would easily approve.

Seriously (?!!) . . . because procedures!

Surely in any facility of that size you can be sure there are other people around, and you can only be at one end of that job at the same time. Potential consequences are pretty self explanatory.

Right LOTO, so there should be no voltage there, so again, not sure what the issue is. Although, personally I would have put the covers on.

Oh, I know. They're replacing about half of the panels in the building along with the last of the 50s vintage main distribution boards upstairs. You can see that the mains cables coming into it are new, and the cloth-covered feeders are gone.
