^ The fact that damage was done to the truck's undercarriage kind of gives one a sense of perspective as to the power of F=MA.

I'm trying to comprehend how one finds one's self doing 120 MPH on a street in which finding a dump truck perpendicular to your line of travel is a possibility. I'm not going to lie and say I've never done 120 on a public road, but it's always been on a lightly-trafficked interstate highway with good visibility and no cross-streets.

I suspect it was nowhere close to 122.

There was a guy recently sentenced to life here for killing two people in a DUI. The police claimed he was doing 150 mph right before the crash, yet somehow survived without any injury.

People should go watch the damage that occurs during crash tests, and those are typically 35 mph.

Or this? What Mustang will do 208 mph?

I think many people also forget just how little education the average police officer has. In OKC, no felonies + high school diploma or GED........that's all you need. In Tulsa, at least you need a Bachelors.

Often times that's probably the top speed of incident. Might not include any decel due to panic breaking. I would be curious to see what the data recorder states in terms of speed and rapid decel.

^ This.

The info is unlikely to be made public unless there's a criminal trial (which seems unlikely, given that I doubt there's enough of the driver left to prosecute.) Still, I'd love to see the telemetry from the last 5 seconds of operation.

I did 150 on the bike coming In to work yesterday morning. Zero cars on a straight 3 lane highway with no ramps.

Thinking of how stupid that was, a single deer could have ended it all. Gotta live a little ya know. I certainly wouldn't put anyone but myself in harm's way.

Unrelated. $80,000 transformer showed up.

A soldier who worked with my dad hit a cow out in West Texas on a motorcycle in the middle of the night. They were unable to easily determine if many of the parts where human or bovine.

After hitting a hundred fifty miles an hour on Daytona at a track day I decided I did not have enough structure in the Miata and added a roll cage. Even with the NASCAR safer barrier I think the cage is just a placebo.

For every impact there are 3 impacts.

Car into wall
Body into harness
Internal organs into wall of body.

Just some food for thought

Yeah, it's interesting for me to see how much more reserved I am now vs the past.

I've literally taken a 1000cc sportbike to the revlimiter in top gear on a public highway. Now I can't imagine riding again with how people drive today.

Coming across northern PA Sunday and a woman decided she wanted to occupy the left lane at the same time I was in it passing her. From all the noise her wheel was making in contact with the running board of my F150 I thought for sure I was going to be replacing aluminum body panels. Got out and other than a nice crease in the entire driver side of her Chevy Cruze it was like “oh... carry on...”

I always wondered what other bit of utility other than helping you step up they had now I know.

Well that used to be a C6 Corvette, so well into 3rd gear? Having done well over 200 on bikes & cars I understand the desire.
It doesn't take a cow or deer. A jack rabbit at 180 can be the end, especially when a barrier or bared wire is the end path.
180+ at Daytona out of NASCAR 4 giggling I cant believe they let us do it in a street car.
Hopefully this random act of stupidity didn't hurt the truck driver.

The Speedo was stuck at 122 and then they confirmed it with the data logger on the ECU. Driver was obviously in that tarp.

Yes. But it can get worse.

A group of us went away for a weekend, left Friday night. Sunday morning he gets a phone call from the neighbour "just thought you might like to know there is water flowing out under your front door, and down the street". Cue mad rush home (couple of hundred klicks).

Turns out the water pipe (hot, naturally) had split lengthways, and a sheet of water had been spraying out over his ceiling, for who knows how long. Plasterboard, carpet, furniture, electronics, you name it, all sodden, ceiling collapsed in a couple of rooms. Biiig insurance claim.

Last week?

Seriously, is the local economy so depressed in Atlanta that a retail location has sat vacant and untouched for the past 25 years?
