It's 6'2", but yes, there is this element present. Not gonna lie, I do get a laugh out of it every time someone I know from work, who doesn't know what I drive, sees me get out of it. A brief but satisfying relationship ensued from one such encounter.

Also, this post makes me think about the times when I have encountered someone noticeably taller than myself. It's always seemed to me like a "let's totally ignore and not in any way acknowledge the potential awkwardness of this situation" kind of situation.

100% no BS, completely serious, I hate that ****. We (all of humanity) don't need to be creating even more opportunities for subtle conflict and division. Every single times it happens, it makes me think "What if he/she thought that I was "that guy?" about some hypothetical encounter in the past, in which someone else thought to themself "Damn, that guy is tall."

Here's how it works:

If someone short asks us to help them retrieve an item from a high shelf at the grocery store, we must assist them.

But we must never, under any circumstances, offer to help a short person reach an item in a grocery store without their prior engagement.

This is the tall persons' code.

This is the way.

Considering how long ago we met, to only be off by 1" is pretty damn impressive if I do say so myself.

Also, and I recognize that I am not posting a picture here...

The Nissan Juke online community seems to be less receptive to new members offering introductions which include homoerotic cat-fiction than I would have expected.

I do believe that I shall pass on this suggestion.

Wholly unrelated, here is a photo taken from near Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, in 1946:

No furries were recorded as being present.

When Russia was sending missiles to Cuba, America was in the Marshall islands firing off nukes into the atmosphere. We did this as a means of dissuading Russia from messing around in Cuba.
My dad was a "safety officer" of some type in the Navy (mechanical engineer), and helped determine the "go" or "no go" for the launches. They'd watch the missiles take off then go sit on the tarmac, cross-legged and point their heads down. The nuclear blasts in space would light up the sky and he said he'd feel heat on his back from them. The whole missile-launching affair was only declassified a few years ago. My dad said that most of the equipment used to track the missiles wasn't on the island, but instead was gimbal-stabilized on a ship in port.

He was happiest about the "golden ticket" he got for being a needed member of these tests. He could show up in Los Angeles, wave his ticket at the counter and he'd be given a first class seat out to Hawaii. It was a less glamorous DC-3 or similar ride out to the Marshall islands.

So, I learned today that my uncle, Tio Jose, has died.

Our family were just settling into normal life in Cuba at the time. when this photo was taken. "Normal" being relative, for a family who had recently departed the company of Francisco Franco of Spain.

Boy, oh boy, how things would change...

None of them liked to talk about it, even to their children. And having spoken of this time with my cousins at great length, we all seem to agree that none of us will ever know the full story.

But this man, shown here on the left, my eldest uncle Jose, was the biggest bad-*** I will ever know. This man studied to be a pilot, got his license, and then stole an airplane and used it multiple times to drop home-made bombs (built by filling flower pots with black powder) onto the headquarters of the Cuban national police force.

(The man on the right, Otto Guillermo, is my father's twin brother. My father was still in Spain at this time, running guns to counter-revolutionaries while also attending medical school. Yes, that whole sentence is true.)

Records are hazy, and first-hand accounts do not entirely agree, but the best record that my sister and I have been able to assemble suggest that he had around 15 kills under his belt during the family's anti-Communist activities prior to fleeing the island for the US.

Jose had three daughters, and no sons.

So my father bestowed his name upon me, as the next-born.

I will never, even if I live for a thousand years, equal this man in his accomplishments.

Sorry for your loss Joe, although a life well-lived is never a bad thing. You come from a family of bad-asses....which means I really hope you re-assess your Nissan Juke purchase.

The "Quad Al," creation of Jim Lytle:

Estimated at 10,000 HP and 12,000 ft/lbs courtesy of four WWII-surplus Allison V12’s, it supposedly never moved under its own power.
