This reminded me of this episode of pinks.
The owner of the T/A was on LS1tech and we got to hear the story when the show aired.
T/A is a D1 procharged 396 with a brake, fasted it had been at the time was like 9.06 and the owner said it had some left in it, but ran an index class at 10.5 and was told by pinks to detune it to mid 11s. (8 sec lt1 was a pretty big deal back then)
Civic made like 628 at the wheels, and the story I heard was he was a big street racer who hadnt been beat, his first race at the track was in the 11s so he called pinks, which is why they told jeff to dial his back (jeff ran a 10.3 in the civic after pinks)
Jeff gets the civic and the rumor was the kid had a mental breakdown so jeff sold him the car back, but Jeff kept the front bumper and their was a picture on tech of the bumper above Jeff's dyno.
This was years ago and some was speculation on tech so I may be wrong on some things.
